Swans Fans Invited To Honour Trundle

Trundle As Player Of The Round?

Taken From The FA.com

Fans from Telford United, Swansea City and Newcastle United are being urged to voice their support for Chris McKenzie, Lee Trundle and Kieron Dyer after their heroics at the weekend in the Third Round of The FA Cup.
The three players narrowly edged out Gillingham 'keeper Bertand Bossu, Tottenham's Frederic Kanoute, Arsenal's Thierry Henry and Luton Town's Adrian Forbes to be nominated by a panel from The FA and their partner UMBRO. Kieron Dyer partnered Alan Shearer up front on Saturday evening due to injuries to Craig Bellamy and Shola Ameobi, and scored twice in a 3-0 away win at last season's beaten finalists Southampton, including a fine solo goal to seal an emphatic victory at the St Mary's Stadium. Telford United goalkeeper Chris McKenzie performed heroics for the Shropshire side from the Nationwide Conference, as they pulled off the giantkilling act of the weekend. After Telford had taken a second minute lead through Lee Mills, McKenzie stood firm against an onslaught from the First Division side, to see them record their thirteenth victory over league opponents, and take them through to the Fourth Round Draw of the competition to be made at 1pm today. The third nominee is Swansea City striker Lee Trundle. Regular appearances on the 'showboating' section of Sky Sports' Soccer AM show, combined with a prolific season in front of goal have seen the former Wrexham striker grab the headlines as the South Wales side vie for promotion from Division Three. On Saturday, Trundle scored two more to bring his season's tally to 18, and take Swansea into the Fourth Round of The FA Cup for the first time since 1998. The FA now wants fans to decide the overall winner by voting on-line at TheFA.com and votes must be cast before 5.00pm on Friday 09 January. The Player of the Round will win £1500 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for the local school, club or organisation of his choice. He will also receive an UMBRO gift of kit player package including XAI boots and training apparel as well as an engraved salver. FA Executive Director David Davies said. "The FA Cup always produces heroes and this weekend was no exception. This is a chance for fans in Newcastle, Telford and Swansea to get behind their 'heroes', as well as giving the chance for neutrals to vote for who they think played the biggest role in seeing these teams through to today's Fourth Round draw. "The added bonus is that irrespective of who receives the most votes, grass roots football in the area will benefit thanks to the £1500 kit donation from FA partner UMBRO."
