The news story in the paper reads.....

"Bristol City are pulling out all the stops to land flamboyant striker Lee Trundle. Swansea City's leading goalscorer for the past four years, the 30-year-old Scouser is the man Robins boss Gary Johnson wants to spearhead his attack in the Coca Cola Championship next season. I understand City have already had up to three bids turned down by the Swans, who are desperate to keep hold of their star player.

But City are refusing to give in and are preparing to come back in with an improved offer for Trundle, who still has two years to run on his contract at the Liberty Stadium. City chairman Steve Lansdown has confirmed the interest in striker Trundle. Playing his cards close to his chest, Lansdown said: "We are looking at several different forwards and Lee Trundle is a player we recognise. "We have had a conversation with Swansea, but there is nothing further to report at this moment in time." Rumours linking Trundle with a possible move to City have been circulating for several weeks. It is understood City's interest only became official a fortnight ago when they lodged an initial bid. That was rejected by Swans chairman Huw Jenkins, as was a further approach made by telephone. City then stepped up their interest, making a formal written bid for Trundle earlier this week. Having again been rebuffed, City are now willing to test Welsh resolve with what is likely to be their final offer. I understand City have so far offered a substantial six-figure package that falls only just short of Swansea's valuation of a player who has scored 86 goals in 156 appearances since moving to West Wales from Wrexham in July 2003. Given continuing concerns over the fitness of Steve Brooker, City manager Johnson is eager to recruit a proven striker for the start of the season on August 11. Trundle boasts an impressive pedigree in the lower divisions. Named player of the year in League Two and League One in 2005 and 2006 respectively, the ebullient Scouser has passed the 20-goal landmark in each of the last four seasons. The Welsh club may be prepared to let Trundle go following the arrival this summer of long-time target Darryl Duffy from Hull, Trinidad and Tobago star James Scotland and Spanish under-20 international forward Guillem Bauza Mayol.
