Tintin Martinez decided to start the game with Chica, Victor Ruiz, Didac, De La Pena, Luis Garcia, Callejon, Coro, Jarque, Moises, Tamudo and Cristian Alvarez made his debut. The La Liga outfit started strongly with several good chances being created within the opening 20 minutes. However, the Barcelona-based club had to wait until six minutes before half time before finally taking the lead after Raul Tamudo latched onto to a Garcia free kick to head home and give his side a well deserved lead. Espanyol continued to dominated the game in the second half and Martinez made several changes at the interval with Javi Ruiz, Valdo, Lacruz, Torrejón, Beranger, Sielva, Ángel, Riera, Julián, Rufete, Jonathan all coming on to get a taste of the action. Jonathan doubled the homeside's lead just after the hour mark after he mopped up Rufete's saved drive from Swansea goalkeeper De Vries. Albert Riera showed just why several top European sides including Liverpool are after him when he added a stunning third with a delightful back heel which left the Swans defence red faced. It wasn't long before Riera, who was man of the match, completed the rout with a great strike two minutes from time to cap off a great performance by the Spanish side who have, so far, been in brilliant form throughout pre-season.
