Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has reacted angrily against Doncaster's Richie Wellens after spitting at Leon Britton.

The Manchester born midfielder faced the full force of the Spaniards anger as he left the field of play after being sent off for a second bookable offence. Speaking after the game Martinez hit back against Wellens and declared that the type of behaviour shown by the midfielder has no place on the football pitch as he outlined on the official site, he said “To spit in someone's face is just not acceptable, incidents like that should never happen in football matches.”

"When you step over the line, the football authorities should step in and look at players' records. Sean O'Driscoll (Doncaster manager) is a gentleman and their squad of players are winners in the right way. What Wellens did does not represent their football club in the right manner.''”

Rising above the actions of the former Oldham Athletic man Britton has been talking about the incident he said “Wellens thought I'd stamped on him. I told him if I did I didn't mean to.He said he was going to punch me. I wish he had, because he spat in my face instead. He was very clever; he spat out of the side of his mouth so the referee didn't see it.”

"It's the first time something like this has happened to me. It's a disgusting thing to do, especially from a fellow pro. I'm just glad I could rise above it. We came away with the three points and he eventually got sent-off.”

Britton has confirmed that he has received an apology from Doncaster captain Brian Stock he added “Their captain, Brian Stock, came up to me afterwards and apologised, but it was still not a very nice thing to happen.'' However the Londoner certainly had the last laugh as Swansea ran out comfortable 3-1 winners over the Yorkshire side.

Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has backed his player over the incident claiming he saw nothing and refuted Britton's claims he said “If you ask Richie Wellens he'll say he didn't do anything. I certainly didn't see anything.

"I've got a player (James Coppinger) in hospital having a brain scan and you've got their right-back (Angel Rangel) almost throwing a punch at Richie, so does he deserve to be sent off?''
