Rodgers - The Reaction Was Fantastic

Brendan Rodgers was delighted at the reaction his side showed in the Carling Cup win at Tranmere

The Swansea City manager saw his side come back in great fashion to secure victory in the last twenty minutes thanks to three late goals.

The win sees the Swans progress to the third round of the competition and they will find out their opponents on Saturday when the draw is made live on Sky Sports.

Speaking to the Swans official website after the game, Rodgers said "The win hinged on us being a bit more aggressive after the break and the reaction was fantastic,

"In the first-half we had plenty of possession but no penetration in the 18-yard box.

"Tranmere is always a difficult place to come and they made it difficult for us, especially in the first-half.

"But the reaction of the players after going behind was outstanding and then we had that bit of quality on the bench to bring on.

"I didn't make changes for sympathy to give some of the guys on the fringes a game,'' added Rodgers.

"I made changes because I want to build a good squad here; not just 11 players. It was a chance for those who haven't played so much to impress - which they did.

"Then we had a bit of extra quality to come off the bench.  Stephen Dobbie worked his lines well and Scott (Sinclair) gives us wonderful penetration. He was super when he came on. He scored one and could have had more because his movement was outstanding.

"I wanted two things coming into the game,'' added Rodgers. "The second thing was to get through to the next round and the possibility of proving our abilities against a big club or have a better chance to go further.

"The first thing was to prove we can win away from home. We hadn't won away so far and it was important for our mentality to show we can come away to a difficult place and win.''
