How have we fared against the Merseysiders in the past

It wont surprise too many people that this is our first League clash against the Prenton park side for exactly 50 seasons, it was in 59/60, our promotion year to the old Dvision 2 that we last met in a league fixture

Back then Saints won 4-2 at the Dell and drew 1-1 at Prenton Park, to leave Saints with an honours even record against Rovers with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in the six league games we have played.

In the cups we have met four times, Tranmere won 2-0 in the league cup in 63/64, then in 2000/01, Tranmere got a 0-0 at the Dell in the FA Cup and at 3-0 down in the replay at half time looked out of the competition, however 45 minutes later they had hit four themselves and were through to meet Liverpool in the quarter finals.

In 02/03 Saints had their revenge, beating Rovers 6-1 in the League cup and this is a result that Saints hope to emulate on Saturday.
