Team Of The Year 2013/14
Tuesday, 10th Jun 2014 13:52

We are now able to announce the Colchester United Team of the Year for 2013/14, as voted for by visitors to our site.

18 of the 37 players that pulled on a shirt for the first team received votes, and it's the top 11 that have taken up the spaces in the 4-2-3-1 formation most commonly used this season.

The goalkeeper and striker positions picked themselves with Sam Walker and Jabo Ibehre respectively receiving 100% of votes for these positions.

In defence, departing captain Brian Wilson took 86% of the votes for right back. Tom Eastman and Magnus Okuonghae took 93% and 50% of the centre back votes respectively - the latter narrowly beating loanee Alex Wynter, who received 43%. Everton loanee Luke Garbutt received the most votes (93%) for left back.

In midfield, Marcus Bean and David Wright took the majority of votes for the defensive midfield positions with 79% and 71% respectively - in fact, everyone chose Bean in their best eleven in one position or another. Freddie Sears took 93% of the vote for the attacking central midfield position, and like Bean, was chosen in everyone's best eleven.

This leaves the wide midfield positions, which received the most competition. Votes were closely split between Alex Gilbey, Gavin Massey and Dom Vose over both positions. Vose took the most votes for right midfield (57%) and Gilbey received the most for left midfield (50%), meaning that for the season year in a row, Gavin Massey narrowly misses out of the top 11.

The final Team of the Year in its formation looks as follows:

The players which received votes but didn't make the cut and theoretically make up the subs bench are Gavin Massey, Alex Wynter, Tosin Olufemi, Matthew Taylor, Ryan Dickson, Sanchez Watt, and Craig Eastmond.

If you disagree with the line-up, but didn't vote, then you only have yourself to blame!
