Wednesday, 10th Jun 2015 17:10 by Nick Illingsworth

Although these days Saints have the money to shop at the high end of the market, with the possibility of a Europa League run could a player or two on a free transfer help Saints bulk up their squad.

Some supporters these days cant see past a new signings ability to be a first choice player, but the modern day game is about building a squad and sometimes you can find a hidden gem in the list of released players in the summer, so can Saints find the answer to a problem or two on the cheap ?

There are a few neames that could be a good addition to Saints squad, John Guidetti released from Manchester City was linked to Saints last season having played for Ronald Koeman on loan at Feyenoord and having scored 20 goals in 23 games could be seen as worth a punt.

Another player that might be of interest could be Brad Jones released from Liverpool, the keeper ousted Simon Mignolet earlier in the season and put in a decent display or tow but is now looking to leave Anfield for more regular football, depending on when Fraser forster is expected to return there are worse keepers we could consider.

Villa of course lose Ron Vlaar at the end of his contract and he has already been linked with a move to St Mary's

Micah Richards mightn't be too bad an addition to the squad.

As a matter of interest, have Arsenal not released anyone?

We were supposed to have been after John Guidetti from Man City last year?

I always liked Chris Baird, he was a real 100 percenter. A name that stands out to me on that is WIlson PAlavios at Stoke, he must go down as one of the worst signings in premier league history. Stoke paid well over 10 mill for him and he must have played about 10 games in 5 years. Absolutely atrocious.

I saw an interview with Friedel when Spuds were planning to end his streak of games started and he said he had come to an agreement with them for his future which included him doing some youth coaching while going for his managerial badges. If they hadn't I think he would have moved to keep the streak going.
So while I would love us to get him, I think he's staying put.
Has anyone ever seen these "badges"? Are they actual badges? Do they wear them on a sash like Boy Scouts?- Although Jose says: "I don't need no steenking badges!"
