Saints Make Second Signing Of The Summer Thursday, 18th Jun 2015 15:35 by Nick Illingsworth Saints have landed their second signing of the summer announcing the arrival of Portugese International right back Cedric Soares. Soares has been linked with Saints for the past week or so with the media saying that the igning has been imminent for the past few days, but now Saints fans have confirmation of that with the club's official site heralding the arrival of Soares from Sporting Lisbon on a four year contract. Executive Director of Football Les Reed speaking on the club's official website commented: “Cédric represents a quality addition to our squad, and is another player with a desire and hunger to succeed. “Like Juanmi, Cédric is a young player with international experience as well as exceptional talent and potential. He joined Sporting’s academy at the age of eight and progressed through to first-team football and international recognition — a pathway previously trodden by a number of our own homegrown stars. “We have been following Cédric’s progress for some time and felt now was the time to make our move. While there was competition from other Premier League clubs we were confident we would prove to be an attractive option for such an ambitious player. “We have now signed two exciting talents early in the window and will continue in our pursuit of Premier League success and our European journey.” Certainly Saints are far ahead of their squad building that they were this time last year however the arrival of Soares seems to suggest that Saints are resigned to losing Nathaniel Clyne with Liverpool being the favourites at the moment to land the right back. but you have the feeling that having landed Soares that Saints feel that this will not be a problem and indeed is a natural progression in building the squad and that with Clyne hopefully fetching 3 times the fee paid for Soares that overall the squad can be improved. However it may be yet that Clyne does stay and again Saints are comfortable with that, you feel that a year ago they were taken by surprise with events, but now they are in control of the situation and that bodes well for the new season.
