Stoke Are Beaten But West Brom and Watford Both Win

It's time for our Saturday round up of all the pre-season action and we start on a busy day with news of a win for both West Brom and Watford by Stoke are beaten by beaten play-off semi finalists Brentford.

Brentford 2 Stoke City 0

Mark Hughes’ side suffered a defeat at the hands of the Championship side at Griffin Park.

Winger Gogia’s shot on 32 minutes struck Ryan Shawcross’ head and looped over goalkeeper Jack Butland and flew into the net.

And Marinus Dijkhuizen’s side sealed victory 16 minutes from time when Dallas scored from a tight angle following a corner.

Mark Hughes: “It wasn’t quite what we were looking for in terms of the result but the test itself was good for us

“Brentford are a good side and they had a really good season last time round, and to be fair to them they look to be in decent nick at the moment too.

“The pitch didn’t really help us a great deal — it is probably two or three weeks away from being up to the right standard to be perfectly honest."

Swindon Town 1 West Brom 4

James Morrison grabbed a brace as the visitors coasted to victory at the County Ground.
The striker scored his first goal with a half-volley from close range after Town failed to clear a free-kick, before scoring a tap-in from Stephane Sessegnon’s pass.

Victor Anichebe punished Yaser Kasim’s error to get on the scoresheet, while Sessegnon scored late on from close range after Ideye Brown's shot was saved.

Kasim redeemed himself with a consolation goal for the League One side.

Dundee United 0 Watford 1

The Hornets made it four wins from five friendlies with Troy Deeney scoring the winner at Tannadice.

Deeney scored with a header in the second half from Juan Jurado’s cross after the Premier League new boys took a quick free-kick.

Quique Sanchez Flores: “I think this is a time to be happy because we are playing well and finding a good balance between the defensive and offensive phases

“I’m very happy for the feelings and the result and I would like to dedicate this result to the fans, because they supported us today and that is important for us.”
