Southampton Launch Bid For Brazilian Striker
Tuesday, 27th Aug 2024 07:55

That well know predictor of football transfers Fabrizio Romano is claiming that Saints, after the sale of Sekou Mara & the soon to be departed Charly Alcaraz have money to be spent and a prime attacking target.

insidefutbol.com are quoting that Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Southampton have launched a bid for Yuri Alberto, currently at Brazilian club Corinthians.

They claim that after the sale of Sekou Mara and the upcoming departure of Charly Alcaraz, that Saints will have money for a late burst in the transfer window.

Sekou Mara went for around £11 million and it is expected the initial fee for Alcaraz will be around £14-15 million.

That will be plenty with Alberto if he arrives expected to cost around £17 million, with both Wolves and West Ham having bidded for him over the last year.

The Brazilian centre forward signed for Zenit St Petersburg in January 2022, but that was obviously curtailed by the invasion of Ukraine, he did manage 4 goals in 11 League games though, before leaving 4 months later on loan to Corinthians.

Alberto, who has a contract with the Brazilian club until 2027, has scored 43 goals in 129 matches for Corinthians and has also helped set up 14 more for his team-mates.

We need a striker with plenty of patience if RM persists with Aribo & Smallbone as the feed , playing them 2 together makes zero sense

If the rumour is the true that is a pathetic fee for Alcaraz who we so sorely need at the moment. If correct Sports Republic clearly do not know what they are doing

Well someone has to come here and score goals and hopefully Big Les and Fernandez will turn out to be PL quality providers
RM has given those players who got us here first crack so now at Cardiff the newbies get a go

It seems clear that Alcaraz needs to be sold before money becomes available for a striker, but why has it taken so long for Alcaraz's sale to be concluded? It seemed fairly obvious that RM was prepared to let Alcaraz go for quite some time.
The potential Alberto signing seems rather knee jerk to me and I just worry that we might be getting another Carrillo or a Tall Paul, although the latter hasn't really been given a proper chance.
