Leeds to land Cardiff striker?

Leeds fans arrived at Elland Road this evening for tonight's Carling Cup clash with the news that the whites' have agreed a fee with Cardiff to bring Ross McCormack to Yorkshire - subject to the striker agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The move comes after the Welsh-club's highly publicised loan-deal to bring Craig Bellamy in from Manchester City on a season long-loan. Suddenly the 24-year-old is very much down the pecking order despite him bagging two goals in the first round of the Carling Cup against Burton Albion.

The Glasweigan striker began his career at Rangers making 14 appearances and netting four goals. During 2005/06 he went to Doncaster on-loan, scoring five times in 19 games. He returned to Scotland but moved from Ibrox to Motherwell where in two seasons he made 57 appearances netting 14 goals.

Next stop was Cardiff for the 2008/09 season, the Bluebirds reportedly paying £120,000 for his signature. His first season at what was Ninian Park was a huge success, scoring 23 in 44. However last season McCormack managed just 5 goals in 41 appearances. Unfortunately 2009 was a troubled year for the Scot as he was found guilty of drink-driving and banned for 17 months.

He can play as either a striker or a winger. The feeling is Leeds do need to sign another striker, due to Billy Paynter's injury problems that have grounded the start of his Leeds career and uncertainty over the future of Lucciano Becchio.

The deal is by no means done, the YEP who have broken the story tonight claim Hull and Ipswich may also be interested. We may therefore see how the wage-structure at Leeds compares with our Championship rivals.

According to one of the Cardiff websites, the lad is on £7,000 per week, a figure Leeds should be easly able to beat. The size of the club, Thorp Arch training facilities, club's ambition, quality of squad all should convince the player there should only be one choice. A slight worry for Leeds would be his persistent hamstring injuries, but nothing a stringent medical can't find. He is quick, can score goals (the right age) and can play up front or out wide. Could be a decent addition. Anybody any idea what the fee is ?
