Nigel Adkins has already shown he is not afford to use the loan market not only to get players but to ship players out.

With the departure of Paul Wotton to Oxford United on loan this week Nigel Adkins is has shown that he is well aware of the opportunities to use the loan system to the Club's advantage, coming into SMS so far he has brought in Richard Chaplow who is already starting to show that he could have a longer future here, and Nicholas Bignall who although has showed a willingness coming off the bench probably wont be kept past his month, if only for the fact that with David Connolly back in action he would be fifth in line for a place up front.

In the other direction there arent too many Saints fans arguing with the departures to the New year at least of Antony Pulis and Paul Wotton, neither looks likely to figure in the first team either short or long term and their future looks to be away from St Mary's.

That leaves Joseph Mills who now appears to be starring in Doncaster's Championship team after a man of the match display on Saturday when his cross set up a goal, the question will be whether he will now be recalled and given the chance to do it with us ?

So far he hasnt had that opportunity and some fans let their views on Mills be blinkered by his spell in Jan Poortvliet's side a couple of years ago, when he along with other youngsters had to be effectively thrown to the Wolves as Saints looked to slash costs by shipping out players on high wages on loan.

The worry with Mills is that he will follow the route of his brother out of the St Mary's door, Matthew Mills was overlooked for jobbing central defenders and allowed to get out of contract, he has since enjoyed a career that in the main has been in a standard higher than his former employers ie us, we dont want to let Joseph Mills go the same way.

Most of the players who have left us seem to have 'enjoyed a career that in the main has been in a standard higher than their former employers i.e. us.' Perhaps, if we'd kept them, we'd have been a lot more successful and, consequently, financially better off.

yes i have often noticed this, especially recently with Simon Gillett who i rated highly. I wonder how long before we see Anthony Pulis in League One teams of the week!! (Inserts ironic sort of smiley thing here, as there aren't bloody well any!)

Are you overlooking that Fish was the one player Adkins knew about before he came here, using him successfully in his Scunthorpe team. I wonder if Mills is being schooled in the Championship in preparation for next season when we will need all the experience of life at that level if we get promoted?

To be honest the views displayed on here have been far more blinkered regarding Mills than any reactions from fans outside of this forum.

Every week seems to bring another comment on how we've all got Joseph Mills wrong and that he needs a chance. Fact is - compare him to our other options and he simply cannot feature. As a backup option, Holmes has more pace and is a more natural winger.

Also, i can't see anywhere Mills being noted as putting in a 'Man of the Match' performance and has actually been blamed for mistakes leading to Donny conceding goals. He was also dropped for the FA cup game just played.

The fact that he's been invited to play at a higher level says more about Doncaster's squad issues than a player we are missing something on.....

When Mills played 6 or 7 times for us last season he was pretty average, thats not saying he can`t do a job for us,i just think he needs first team games and at the moment Harding is a better option at left back and we have plenty of other options down the left hand side.
