Arsenal refund 08:49 - Apr 9 with 17238 viewsMillie

From the other site

Regarding a refund on the Arsenal ticket.

I went to the ticket office yesterday and enquired about a refund and was told that although the club, and Arsenal had a policy of not refunding the cost of a match ticket, the Swans were looking in to give a refund, but had yet to make a final decision.
What I was also told yesterday is that at the moment, all the club were doing was taking names and addresses of fans wanting a refund, and the reason why, and sometime next week the club would contact those fans with their decision.

Hope the above is of some help for those seeking a refund.

A mate called his credit card company on Tuesday and placed the transaction in dispute stating that he has contacted the club, they haven't refunded him and that there is room for refund in the statutory sale of the ticket. Based on this information the bank disputed the transaction and he was immediately refunded. If within 60 odd days or so the club dispute this he will have to provide further information. However, the amount is less than £100 so his bank have refunded in any event. They don't expect to hear anything back.

It took him three minutes on the phone.

I used to work for one of the major banks.
I have also used the knowledge gained to dispute problems, with various outcomes.
You need to contact the club to request a refund, and if they refuse, request in writing, so you have a paper trail
First of all if you paid by credit card, and the purchase was over £100, then under the Section 75 rule, the supplier and the credit card company are equally liable. However the burden of proof is upon you to show they (the club in this case) have not clearly explained the terms and conditions of refunds or exchanges. If they have, and they have complied with this, then the purchaser has no recourse under this avenue (if they stated, the date or time is subject to change, they are covered)
The other avenue the credit card company will then explore is chargeback. Basically, if they feel you may have a case, they will refund your card with all monies paid, the club then has 45 days to challenge this. If they don't happy days. If they do appeal, then if they prove they did act properly, then the refund can be charged back on your card at a later date.
Debit card transactions and credit card transactions under £100 offer little if no protection. You need to apply to the bank / card issuer, and rely on their goodwill.
As an aside, if you need to make a large purchase (over £100) and you want the protection of a credit card but don't want to pay the 2% or 3% levy often put on by retailers, by paying £100 on the credit card and the rest by any other method offers you the same protection as if you'd paid it all on the credit card

Thank you very much for this brilliant post. Today after reading this I went to my bank and they got a credit card specialist to phone me. Turns out the bloke who phoned me is a Swans fan and knew exactly what's been going on. He explained about section 75 on the consumer credit act of 1974 and confirmed everything you've said. I bought 4 tickets which came to £102 and I'm pleased to say that it's been refunded back on my card. The bloke in the bank was different class, he said he'll sort the people at the club out if need be
Once again thank you very much

The club have bought at least 1000 tickets off Arsenal, why don't they contact their credit provider on behalf of us and leave it as Arsenals problem

AsK your bank for a" chargeback" on your card there is no minimum limit and is not part of Section 75.

Tell them that the OFT have told football clubs that they must refund tickets when a game is postponed for television coverage

That is good advice. My daughter still wants to go even though it will cause massive inconvenience and holidays used up but it may happen as I want to go as well in spite of the problems this change has caused.

I have beef with our "family" club run by the fans for the fans that are basically hiding behind mirrors at this time. The club have profited by nearly a million pounds with this game being televised and although Arsenal are going to refund their tickets we still will not commit to this.

so what is the current state of play from the clubs point of view - they are thinking about it?

or do I have to ring them up and hassle?

Oh great. Except that I'm a ST holder who lives in Oxforshire (and will be in Leicester on Saturday). Now let me see, 5 hours driving and £40 of petrol to get my £26 back. Tough decision....

Just a suggestion if you're going to post them.
Send them signed for delivery (cost about £1.50ish)
You have a record who accepted the envelope and can track/ trace it should the ticket office claim not to have received it.
Leaves Royal Snail liable to a certain amount as well and they haven't lost one of my letters sent this way (yet!!!)

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

'Cos it means I will be at the Stoke game, as I am at every game, so why can't I get my money back then. As for using recorded delivery then that's more cost. And no doubt when people do get refunds they will not include the 'admin' charge you have to pay.

It will cost money in fuel for people to drive to the ticket office. That's life I'm afraid. The club is now giving refunds and rightly so....recorded delivery for a small envelope will cost £1.73
