For anyone who doesn't know the Sheffield Wednesday owner has offered the supporters the chance to refund their season tickets for the remaining games. The conditions of the refund are a ban from purchasing all future season tickets and membership applications and forfeit of accrued loyalty points. I find this absolutely staggering that a club would offer this and why any fan would accept this, you buy a season ticket in the hope of success, not guaranteed success. Then if Sheffield Wednesday start playing well again the fans who got a refund will inevitably want to come back and the club will be turning money away so it doesn't even make sense from a business point of view. All this has done is divide the fan base into people who have taken the refund and people that haven't with both sets abusing each other, it's madness. How clubs can get the PR so badly wrong is baffling to me, not that we are immune from the odd PR nightmare like the DJ situation |  | | |  |

Seems to me that this is probably a head-on response to whingers and moaners. Sheffield Wenesday have had a rough time of it of late and there will inevitably be those who are vociferous in their condemnation of the Board and the manager. 'Not buying another season ticket' 'Not coming again, whilst he's in charge' Won't be back as long as he's Chairman. All the usual tripe that gets trotted out when a club is in a rut.
The owner has probably said, "OK, we hear you. Enough grief, thank you. If you don't like it f... off, here's your money back, but don't EVER come back. Take your money and shove it.
By choosing that option, supporters do so in the knowledge that they will be refused all future purchases of tickets, so will effectively be ending their attendance at matches. Permanently.
They will presumably either put up, or shut up. All clubs have detractors. Not all Chairman meetit in such a confrontational manner, but sometimes moaning is seemingly counter-productive.

In that context, a few hundred refunded season tickets is a pittance (£50,000?). The fans think they deserve better having got to the playoffs last season.
The fans concerned who get their money back forgo any chance of a Premier League season ticket and in giving up their loyalty points realistically any chance of watching Wednesday should they get back in the Premier League.
You'd have to be seriously hacked off with your club to need the money back on those terms which is why its a storm in a teacup.

Yes. But not BECAUSE they are Muslims. A pub licensee can refuse to serve anyone, without giving them a reason. Any shopkeeper can do the same. There is no such thing as a 'right to buy'. | |

Discrimination is surely only where an individual has no choice, such as their ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability or in the case of religion, a status which would be deemed non-negotiable |  |
