Once again: referee error doesn't feature in the equation, otherwise practically every game would be subject to review and replay

This isn't just about Dale gaining three points; those who decide these things should follow precedent for games at the professional level. There may be a few instances where games are replayed after being abandoned late on, but there are plenty of others where the result was allowed to stand. Without doing any research into this, it's always been something which clubs and fans alike have understood

A counter argument would be: it's up to the ref to deem the pitch unplayable, at which point we were ahead, and same for both sides

"Deserved" doesn't feature in the equation

Oh, i'm sure you could handle him, no worse than one of your (former) unruly pupils

Just tell him to stop beating about the Bush

Appreciate the "let's keep this going" idea

Honestly don't think there's any easy/difficult fixtures. Boston came within a couple of minutes of beating York at their place - the "much vaunted" York who score for fun (okay, they've beaten us twice too) but as someone else commented, what we need to be doing is establishing a gap so by the time we meet them in our end-of-season fixture, they can't overtake us

Pope's catch on the boundary when he came on as sub fielder was, j hope, his last action in an England shirt

Reading some of the post-match comments from players, the impact of Crawley's straight six hitting the LED boards in the fourth over meant the seam was softened up to lessen the swing which was causing all the havoc

Apparently, it's a tactic recognised in white-ball cricket and it came off. If Crawley's shot had miscued and he'd been dismissed, he'd have been vilified, but sometimes these things work and on this occasion - along with sending out Carse at no.3 to have a blast and further soften the seam, even for just a short while - meant that Bethell came in under more favourable conditions and it's his 40 which took the heat out of the chase

Do a Duckett?

Joe Root's first test win on Aussie soil*, Jacob Bethell wins playing his first test there

Let's make it 3-2

* and Ben Stokes, though he's not been on as many tours there

At 75 minutes, i was thinking that coming away with a point was still pretty good

In fact, it'd have kept us top of the league, as subsequent results turned out

What's been most impressive is achieving these last two away wins without Mani

Hendo and McBride, despite the inexperience of the latter, somehow seems to have worked as a starting combo over the two games. Not quite Hendo/Done, but since many of us thought Hendo wouldn't be starting it's possible Matty Done might've seen something (or reached back into his memory) that made it the best option. Then having Smith & Rodney to take it further in the latter stages is covering the hole left by Mani

By and large, fans will go through the exit gates feeling upbeat when there's another 3 points on the board, so there's a shift in perception this season and the results just can't be gainsaid

We're doing less of the turning back when forward momentum is possible. That's probably due to players becoming more familiar with the system and better players having the ability to take the right option and execute it

In addition, the use of subs is far better than it has been. All of this is due to the strength of the management team, with JM at the head of that team

That's probably doing sin a disservice. Sin is more interesting, but the outcome is usually worse

Providing Dale keep picking up 3 points (17 out of 21, wow) all sins are forgiven

The collective runs scored by the top 4 in both first innings was the second lowest in test history

Very important three points today. Rivals are going to look again and think "who's going to stop Dale?"

As 442 says, the resilience is there, so huge credit to the management team for that

At last... Pope dropped, Bethell in at no.3

Archer out of the tour with a side strain

First thoughts were... meh, it's all over. Except it isn't, and the future of this England side has to be earned, starting Boxing Day

Always seems to happen that someone iconic passes around this time of year. This guy never really courted the limelight but his songs will last a very long time, including of course, Driving Home For Christmas

My favourite was the lesser-known Giverny

Whilst fans are naturally attached to their club, the way in which pro footballers and managers (with very, very few exceptions) manipulate this attachment is a sight to behold... for those with eyes to see. Kissing badges? Kiss my arse

That's not to say JM doesn't feel an affinity with the club, of course he does, but as TS says, he has a higher loyalty to his career and his loved ones

Promotion will have hugely beneficial effects for him, whether he's persuaded to stay or not. You can't "undo" that achievement... but it ain't happened yet, as you rightly point out

Lined up for the captaincy, too...

If he spends the rest of his career making amends for tossing his early promise away like a bat to midwicket, he might just retrieve something, but to do that you need a brain
