Week 33 Results

ASTON VILLA 0 WOLVES 1

Wolves have completed a league double over Villa for the first time since the 1962-63 campaign. 3 got this spot-on, and another 18 had the outcome.

PRESTON 1 CARDIFF 3
Cardiff leapfrogged Preston to move into the Championship play-off places with this emphatic win. Nobody had this spot-on, but 7 did get the outcome.

SWANSEA 0 LUTON 1
Luton climbed off the bottom of the Championship with a well-earned win over 10-man Swansea, boosting their own survival hopes and damaging the Welsh club's hopes of reaching the play-offs. Nobody got this spot-on, and only unitedwhites had the outcome. 25 predicted a win for Swansea with 11 going for a 2-0 in what was equally the most predicted score this week.

BARNSLEY 0 MILLWALL 0
Millwall lost ground in the battle for Championship play-off places after this bore draw. Another game with no 3 pointer, though 10 did get the outcome.

DERBY 2 READING 1
Derby kept up their momentum in the hunt for a Championship play-off place, to register a fourth successive league win, as both teams ended with 10 men. A great 8 got this spot-on, and a further 16 had the outcome.

BIRMINGHAM 3 HULL 3
It is now 13 games in the league without a win for Hull after leading 2-0 and 3-2. Nobody had this spot-on, but 5 did get the outcome. 20 predicted a win for Birmingham.

CHARLTON 1 QPR 0
Charlton boosted their hopes of Championship survival with a victory that leaves their London rivals cut adrift of the play-off spots. 4 got this spot-on, and 6 more had the outcome.

LEEDS 3 FULHAM 0
Leeds went back to the top of the Championship with a dominant victory over a Fulham side that ended with 10 men. Yet another game without a 3 pointer, though 22 did get the outcome with 11 going for a 2-1 in what was the other most predicted score.

STOKE 0 MIDDLESBROUGH 2
Colin more commonly known as Neil Warnock, or is it the other way round, has an instant impact as Middlesbrough get a vital win. Stoke are another team to have a late sending off. Another game this week without a spot-on, but 7 did have the outcome.

WIGAN 2 BLACKBURN 0
Lee Evans and Michael Jacobs scored late goals as Wigan extended their unbeaten run to eight games and kept a clean sheet for a sixth successive match. No spot-ons here either, though 8 did get the outcome.

BRISTOL CITY 1 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 2
City take their winless run to seven as Sheffield Wednesday recorded a deserved victory at Ashton Gate. Only 2 got this spot-on, and 3 more had the outcome.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST 3 HUDDERSFIELD 1
Two goals from Lewis Grabban helped move Forest up to fourth in the table with victory over Huddersfield, who face the growing prospects of suffering back-to-back relegations. Well done to wessex_exile for being the only one to have this spot-on, and another 23 got the outcome.

WATFORD 1 SOUTHAMPTON 3
Danny Ings scored twice as Southampton deservedly beat Watford, who remain in deep relegation trouble after another uninspired performance. For the eighth time this week nobody got this spot-on, though 9 did have the outcome.

EXETER 0 NORTHAMPTON 4
Northampton dominated 10-man Exeter to win the League Two play-off final and gain promotion to League One at an empty Wembley. Not surprisingly this game joins the list of a game with no 3 pointer, but 10 did get the outcome.

CRYSTAL PALACE 0 BURNLEY 1
Burnley secured their first Premier League win in their last 11 visits to London. This game makes it an amazing 10 fixtures without a 3 pointer this week, and just BFG had the outcome.

As I said in the Saturday update, if we thought the Premier League games were hard to predict, the Championship ones have proved to be a lot more difficult. After Saturday's 10 games there were 7 that failed to produce a 3 pointer. Another 3 from the final 5 games now makes it an amazing 10 games without one. At least the other 5 games did achieve 18 spot-ons, thanks mostly to the Derby 2-1 producing 8, and the 146 outcomes made sure everyone put some points on the board. Last week we had a decent 11 members getting double figures, this week we had to settle for only 5. With Division One dominating the Premier for the second week running, it was four members from this league that got double figures for the second week in a row, with burnsieespana repeating last weeks 13 to make him the weeks top scorer. That excellent total had two spot-ons the wins for Charlton and Sheff Wed. The other member to have two 3 pointers was concordman, the wins for Wolves and Derby, to give him a very decent 11 points. That same total was matched by BFG, who achieved it with an incredible 11 outcomes. Best of those to get one 3 pointer were noah4x4, the Sheff Wed 2-1, and gsy163, the Charlton 1-0, to give them a decent 10 points each.

In the Premier The title is all over bar the shouting as noah4x4 top scores in this division, and takes his lead to 43 points. Just records to go for now. 2 points needed to go through the magic 200 barrier, and 2 more 3 pointers from 25 games required to get the record for them in a season. It is a lot closer contest for the final Charity Shield spots. Second placed thrillseeker increased his advantage by 2 points over the chasing pack. With everybody below the top two scoring 5, 6 or 7 it means gerry_us is still holding onto the final place in third. In fact the only change in this league has Sector4 moving up a place. Just as the title is a forgone conclusion, the bottom place looks sealed for TheHappyGooner as they fall further behind in their fight for survival.

In Division One It is as you were for the top five places. That is good news for the top two Blue4U2 and basher2010, as they remain strong favourites for the automatic places. The most significant change has concordman moving back into the final play-off spot, with Lewis_1 dropping out of the top six for the first time this season. The three members, BFG, gsy163 and burnsieespana, who had double figure scores for the second week running, has suddenly given them hope of making the play-offs, but more of the same is required for the final 25 games. After going 8 weeks without a 3 pointer unitedwhites finally got one courtesy of the Derby 2-1. Another 6 outcomes means he still has more of them than anybody in either division.

THE TABLES (255 out of 280 played)

Saturday's results

NORWICH 0 BRIGHTON 1
Brighton have completed their first league double over Norwich since 1951-52. Norwich have failed to score in three consecutive home Premier League games for the first time ever. 5 got this spot-on, and a further 12 had the outcome.

LEICESTER 3 CRYSTAL PALACE 0
Vardy took his top-flight tally to 101 with a second-half double to give Leicester their first win since the restart. Nobody had this spot-on, but 20 did get the outcome.

MANCHESTER UNITED 5 BOURNEMOUTH 2
Mason Greenwood scored twice in the Premier League for the first time as Manchester United came from behind to beat Bournemouth and increase the Cherries' relegation worries. Nobody got this spot-on, though 23 did have the outcome.

WOLVES 0 ARSENAL 2
Arsenal have won three consecutive league games without conceding for the first time since November 2017, as Wolves suffered their first Premier League defeat in nine games. Again nobody had this spot-on, but 5 did get the outcome.

CHELSEA 3 WATFORD 0
Chelsea have won four successive Premier League games at Stamford Bridge for the first time since December 2017. Watford haven't won away at Chelsea in any competition since May 1986. 6 got this spot-on, and another 18 had the outcome.

DERBY 1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1
Derby get a 97th minute equaliser, after going down to 10-men only minutes earlier. That late goal was good news for the 6 who had this spot-on, and the 4 who got the outcome.

BLACKBURN 1 LEEDS 3
Leeds strengthened their position at the top of the Championship table with this resounding victory. Well done to GOSBTS for being the only one to get this spot-on, and another 19 had the outcome.

BRENTFORD 3 WIGAN 0
One of the most turbulent weeks in Wigan's history ended in a comprehensive defeat, as they concede a goal for the first time in eight matches and have Joe Garner sent off, while Brentford set a club record after a fifth successive win without letting in a goal. 3 had this spot-on, and a further 22 got the outcome with a massive 14 going for a 2-0 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

BRISTOL CITY 0 CARDIFF 1
Danny Ward came off the bench to score a late winner for Cardiff. That was the 16th goal scored by a Cardiff substitute this season, more than any other team in the Championship. 6 got got this spot-on, and another 9 had the outcome.

FULHAM 1 BIRMINGHAM 0
Birmingham's winless run stretches to nine games, as Fulham get a 95th minute winner. That late goal was good news for the magnificent 7 who had this spot-on, and the 16 who got the outcome.

HUDDERSFIELD 0 PRESTON 0
Huddersfield's hopes of pulling away from the Championship bottom three and Preston's play-off ambitions both suffered a blow with this bore draw. Only 2 got this spot-on, and 3 more had the outcome.

LUTON 0 READING 5
Luton saw their Championship survival hopes severely dented as four goals from Yakou Meite helped Reading to a first win in four games. Not surprisingly no 3 pointer for anybody here, though 6 did get the outcome.

STOKE 4 BARNSLEY 0
Stoke hammered Barnsley to go two points clear of the Championship's bottom three and leave their fellow strugglers four points off safety. Another game this week with no 3 pointer, but 15 did have the outcome.

The penultimate week of the season, and with 13 of the 15 fixtures played so far, what a week it has been. Even though we have had 5 games failing to produce a 3 pointer, with just about every game going to form, there has been good points for virtually everyone. The 36 spot-ons have helped an incredible 17 members get a double figure score, and with two fixtures still to go there could be more to come. Of those 17 the top scorers are TheFatGooner and concordman who have both had 3 spot-ons and 7 outcomes to give them both a brilliant 16 points. A special mention for Blue4U2 who has had 12 of the 13 outcomes so far. There will be a bigger write up on the weeks best performers after Sunday's two fixtures, when there will be a full round up of the weeks events.

In the Premier Having the 1-0 wins for Cardiff and Fulham spot-on means noah4x4 has finally broken the record for the most 3 pointers in a season with 15 fixtures to spare. I am sure he has the points record as well, but haven't got the history details to prove that. A fantastic season anyway, and a very worthy Champion. The other Charity Shield spots look like being taken by thrillseeker and gerry_us. Though TheFatGooner is putting in a late bid with his brilliant effort so far this week. A no show from Colukev means the current bottom three are now certain to be relegated.

In Division One The top two Blue4U2 and basher2010 have just about sealed promotion after both are having decent weeks. The play-off spots remain the same, but concordman continues his with his tremendous form since the restart, and moves up a couple of places. A sustained run of form from gsy163 has given him every chance of making the play-offs, as that sixth and final play-off place looks like going to the final game of the season to be decided.

Again this is only a brief write up on both divisions. A bigger update after Sunday's two fixtures.

THE TABLES (268 out of 280 played)
