The lucky 350 or so U’s faithful will be there at King’s Marsh this evening for the FA Cup 1st Round game against AFC Sudbury, the rest of us will be watching on BBC 2 or BBC iPlayer.
Now this is not a difficult game and although the majority of neutrals would love a minnow to knock out a league side, I see only a Colchester victory this evening and I am going for 5-0.
Yes, the records show that we have lost to non-League sides on 13 occasions in the FA Cup and our recent record is lamentable (indeed we’ve all seen some of the shocks over the years), but we should comfortably see off the Suds tonight.
Forget about the 3G pitch, the 2,000-capacity crowd and the banana skin that this game presents. We are a professional football club and it is time that we put on a show in front of the TV Cameras and said thank you very much for the £75,000 which will go towards the War Chest for a striker in January 2022.
Last week we saw off the bottom club, tonight we will see off the minnows from AFC Sudbury.
In other news Brandon Comley has been released by Bolton but I think we are ok for defensive midfielders.

Whether this gets followed up or not I don't know, but it appears the BBC microphones have picked up yet more racial abuse directed against Shamal George, in the context I would assume from AFC Sudbury supporters.
Shameful if so.

Sadly this week cricket has been badly tarnished in the wake of YCCC's racial attitudes exposed. With them it is going to really hurt them in the pocket with the sanctions imposed over not being allowed to stage international games.

Boisterous expected first ten minutes, after Clamping had been replaced after a heavy challenge.
George was unconvincing claiming his first free kick, but a class save just after made sure we did not fall behind . All straightforward thereafter, and some excellent defending kept the score down up to half time for our hosts .
Four goal difference should be the standard gap between these two football tiers. Our near neighbours were excellent hosts, with some cask Nevergate ales in tent city at a good price.
Reports of racial abuse to George have emerged, unfortunately a reflection on a sad individual than the club has a whole who tried to be most welcoming. |  |

I saw an announcement from AFC Sudbury about this earlier. Enlisting the help of BBC sound engineers to isolate what was said from the background crowd noise and ongoing commentary, apparently although it’s quite clear what it sounded like, what was shouted wasn’t actually racist, abusive yes, but not racist.
