One word summed it up , experience.
Possession lost constantly after first touch, just by being closed down quickly, probably something that does not happen in training . Five across midfield, but the wide guys did not tuck in when defending leaving full backs exposed . It showed that the fringe players are nowhere near first team duties . But the main concern is the forward line.
But let’s get it into context, strong Posh side with caretaker wanting a home win on his CV, against ten changes U’s side and for first 30 mins not much to choose between the sides until the opening goal.
League points are the ones that matter, but a promotion campaign only the last play off place even realistic. |

A two legged final in the southern section got us of to a nightmare start, a 2-0 defeat at London Road blew our Wembley dreams apart.
Ricky Otto gave the U’s the run around all night, ( just like he used to the local constabulary in his off field activities ), but those leaving thought early goal at home could turn the balance has they should have won by more after being two up early in second half. New signing made his debut for the U ‘s that night …. Mark Sale . |

Another two points dropped from one up situation.
However two calls by the ref affected the outcome and both correct despite DC post match interview .
Big hand ball leads to the penalty and showing a stud in a challenge leads to straight red.
Draw was a fair result, both teams looked average with the U’s to patient and ponderous in all play and lack penetration before and after the goal. They need to show more urgency in the performance. |

South stand hand drier in the gents has not worked for couple of games and also audio and light indicators on one of the turnstiles do not work. Is this a council building maintained by the club ?

Two points dropped, subs invited visitors on to us and with all those defenders and no outlet , could not keep a clean sheet. Final ten minutes played like an away side holding on for something .
DC has to take the blame for this one .

U’s adopted blue and white stripes when turning professional in 1937. Manager Ted Davies had played for the Terriers .
In the famous cup game 1947 the U’s played in pink and chocolate quarters . |

Same old gripes, passing sloppy and never have any great possession and control. Failure to defend edge of box, throughout first half, gave the hosts the lead. Equaliser incorrectly ruled out has ref finds a foul when player falls down.
Changes to chase leave to many running headless, eventually caught exposed at back for second, in added time.
What we learnt, Williams cannot play down the middle, (thought it was Samson), Sesay looks ok running at opposition but holds on to ball to long and has one touch to many. Two on loan strikers not good enough .
Two signings should improve deficiencies above. If not it’s a long season. [Post edited 2 Sep 8:04]

Always surprised they merged, but Jammers selling Chapel Road for development needed somewhere to play . In hindsight Swifts or Witham perhaps wanted to keep their own identities. |

One wonders how they gained over hundred points last season unless the squad has dramatically changed in preseason, only two tame shots directly at the keeper being the token efforts.
U’s looked comfortable without doing damage until Williams side footed strike from a cross stunning went inside the post. Williams impressed again when coming on for Thorn who when he was transferred to Lincoln needed to turn assists into more goals.
Two welcome home wins has seen us get a better start than usual, now with two away games if the organised defence can keep more clean sheets under home side pressure. |

Rochdale had beaten Coventry in the previous round so fancied their chances of progressing.
Remember the BBC vidi printer, ( looked like a jumping frog ) showed the U’s 3-1 down at 16-40, and late coming in with a three all draw.
The cup draw then was made on the Monday lunchtime, the same day has the reply with an either or home tie against Leeds. A stunning non ticket crowd a few hours later saw the U’s completely dominate there opponents and should have had the tie won well before half time . |

Does the ungentmanly conduct law still exist, or dangerous play unto yourself ?
Strange that during the World Cup and nearer to the final you got, the so called experts started saying players should not get yellow or red cards early on in games, particularly from quarters onwards has it would ruin games has a spectacle, but Messi should have got a straight red in a group game, but somebody turned a blind eye to.
Remember Kevin Moran being the first player to be sent off, ( or has the saying back in the day - trumped ! ) in the FACup final, and the shock of it, and even Jack Taylor giving the Germans a penalty in the early mins in the World Cup final, both correct by the law but shock because of the occasion. |
