Larry Lloyd
at 15:32 28 Mar 2024

Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool defender Larry Lloyd has died aged 75.

Remember him being player/ manager of newly promoted Wigan’s first visit to Layer Rd in the 80’s. Beat us by the odd goal in an evening fixture with much verbals flying around, especially a notable one for a ex Div One pro. At the final whistle turned around and give the Spion Kop end some back together with some Agincourt signs.

RIP .

Much welcome for the U’s to be chosen for a televised game, although the premise was probably to see the league leaders score a hatful against a relegation threatened side.
However has exposure become a disadvantage, yes all clubs get coverage of goals weekly, but a full 90 mins shows more about personal, positions and set up of the side comprehensively.
More confidence from opposition in playing the U’s to the end of the season with more information gathered from the viewing will pre warn clubs .

One interesting fact that arose from the Sky blurb .

Youngest average starting team in top four divs .

Blackcats 22 yrs 356 days
Posh. 23yrs 103 days
U’s. 23 yrs 325 days

Which led to the statement that we were not street wise enough .

The FA executive who approved the controversial changes to the England flag on the home shirt left Wembley last year. The FA's former commercial director Navin Singh is now chief commercial officer of Six Nations Rugby.

The Football Association has defended the new England shirt despite a backlash after Nike changed the colour of the St George's Cross.

Sky Sports News has been told the governing body has no intention of withdrawing the controversial kit.

Perhaps next time change to lions to dodos 🦤.

England's new £125 football kit for the European Championship has sparked a major row over a multicoloured St George's Cross on the back of the shirt collar, with Sir Keir Starmer leading calls for it to be changed to traditional red.

Let’s face it , it’s all about the money .

Two from Three - remaining fixtures

Form usually goes out the window at the business end of the season, with the odd blip. Any points away is a bonus, but being unbeaten at home, sprinkled with victories must be essential for safety.

Saddle up for three vital points

Pitch played ok. A game a home side would get in front and go on to win. Considering with only two defenders we did well to only concede one. Penalty miss woke up the visitors would came in the game strongly. Edwards needs to come on earlier to influence games with decent cross which again was lacking. Draw a fair result, both sides had opportunities to gain a win.

Cover up.

The reduction in pitch size will reduce time and space when in possession, giving us a parity over more successful sizes who probably have more confidence on the ball. Let’s hope it is now similar size to the pitch at Heybridge where they have been outdoor training giving themselves a familiarity to the new dimensions.
Wonder how the pitch size now compares with the rest in the division ? Who has the largest and smallest pitches in the division.
Anyway, sunny day Saturday, but the covers will need to place after match has Sunday looks like another rain fest .

Quite an unusual occurrence, once at the start of the season all dimensions have to be circulated to every other club in your division and any change had to be submitted for authorisation.

Common sense has prevailed. A unnecessary fixture to fulfil with the present backlog of fixtures .
Moving location also avoids the host venue also being one of the finalists.

Must make our home games count . All too often a worth while away display was not backed up with home points . If we do not improve this scenario we will only have OURSELVES to blame.
