Perhaps Khan should reverse his policy to cut down on stop and search operations. Gangs in London know there is little chance of the metropolitan police stopping them. | |

It goes much deeper than Khan, I don’t think the austerity years have helped with huge cuts in police numbers and budgets, increased legislation which requires policing and less having to do more.
Stop and Sarah is very divisive. I can see that it would benefit in certain scenarios for example if it was intelligence led, by just randomly turning over/ searching black peoples is a massive problem and discriminatory which is why it became controversial in the first place. Previous guidance published by the College of Policing ( which is ultimately driven by the Home Office agenda) placed additional barriers in the way of officers undertaking Stop and Search because of the impact it was having.
Gang culture is a huge issue, I’d suggest a lot of it is to do with the fact some kids have very little prospects, they are trapped in a cycle of poverty and desperation, probably are NEET’s, can see their never likely to be able to afford a house in London etc etc.
The solution to knife crime needs a considered approach, much like what they did in Glasgow. [Post edited 11 Feb 2022 10:47]

You cannot stop knife crime by not stopping and searching.
By not doing it you are giving licences to kill
Nobody who shoves a knife into somebody's guts is going to hand over that which will see them in Court. | |
