Imperious U's to clip Robins' wings at the County Ground 22:41 - Oct 14 with 1077 viewsdurham_exile

It’s all good news this week. The U’s qualify for the next stages of the Papa Johns Trophy by topping their group and in doing so go three matches unbeaten under Matt Bloomfield.

We also go into the draw as Ball Number 13 for the first round of the FA Cup on Monday evening (BBC 2 at 7pm).

The EFL finally get their act together and agree to waive the ridiculous rule concerning the screening of Saturday games at 3pm for those of us based within the UK. On occasions when unable to get to a game I will look forward to watching for £10 on a Saturday afternoon, without having to travel to Burkino Faso or a similar location!

And the U’s travel to the County Ground to play Swindon Town looking to secure a vital victory and three more precious points to propel us still further up the table.

Yes all good news and in addition MB has the team playing with belief, spirit, ability, enthusiasm and with a degree of flair and possession football. What a transformation in a very short amount of time.

Cameron Coxe has also been loaned to Boreham Wood which suggests that MB is happy with his Right Back options. Interestingly he also looked at Ossama Ashley at Gillingham in the right back berth. Whilst I not an Ashley fan he did at least have a decent game on Tuesday.

Bottom half of the table:
Swindon 13 20
Grimsby 12 19
Crewe 13 17
Walsall 13 16
Sutton 13 14
Stockport 12 12
Wimbledon 12 12
Newport 13 11
Gillingham 12 11
COL U 12 9
Hartlepool 13 9
Harrogate 12 8
Rochdale 12 8
Crawley 12 6

Swindon under Scott Lindsey are picking up after a poor start to the season. We also have a decent record against the Robins recently. So, I reckon another three points with a handsome 2-0 win on Saturday with Appiah and Longstaff on the scoresheet.

MB is beginning not only to know his best XI but also he is beginning to bring out the best in some of our better players. I was impressed with Chilvers and Longstaff on Tuesday and will expect to see them both lining up in midfield at the County Ground.

Long term injuries Smith and Huws, who was deliberately crocked by Millwall, remain on the sidelines.

Suggested team:

Hornby

Tchamadeu Chambers Dallison Kazeem

Chilvers Longstaff Skuse

Lubala Appiah Nouble

Subs:

O’Hara Ashley Clampin Eastman Marshall-Miranda Newby Chesters

It is in midfield where we have an abundance of talent and Hannant, Judge and Owens can also play in the central positions. Strikers Sears and Big John to sit this one out.

Swindon weather is likely to be 15 degrees Celsius, mostly cloudy with a 22% chance of precipitation.

Safe journey to the travelling faithful, including Wessex, who has only a short journey to the County Ground.

Enjoy the game

Marshall-Miranda and Hannant should be in starting X1

Hannant looked a different player in his more central role last week

Cheers Durham, heading off shortly. Incidentally, where did you see the news about iFollow streaming? Great news if so, particularly as it gives the club revenue they'd otherwise miss out on.

Wessex an article in the Times this week.

Enjoy the game today.

I would like to see Eastman instead of Dallison who to me looked very ponderous last Saturday.
Also think Hannant has found a role in central midfield doing an awful lot of covering last week. I also think Miranda should play.
So in short Durham your team apart from Dallison, Longstaffe and Chilvers.

The HT positive, sat enjoying the company of Wessex. Nervy 0-0, but Swindon perhaps look more threatening.

The negatives…..
1. No bar open pre-match for Us fans.
2. Local pubs are all home fans only (we walked miles to find one).
3. Huge HT queue, run out of food before I get served.
4. Shocking refereeing. Inconsistent with yellow cards etc.

Overall, shocking hospitality. Suggest we close all bars to Swindon fans at JCS, make all pubs within one mile home only….oh forgot, there are no nearby pubs except Dog & Unpleasant.

Losing 1-0 after shocking refereeing decisions. How far offside?

Newby and Akinde on for Sears and Hannant.

Our Away form remains grim.
Can we salvage a point.

Indeed so Durham. We seem to have reverted back to type with a low possession and few shots on goal.
Reality I suspect today and shows a long hard season ahead.

Why has Bloomfield reverted to Humes tactics?
Why Chambers instead of Eastman?
Why Sears as a lone striker, then give him zero service except hoofball?
To be fair, referee was Swindon’s MOM. Awful.
Very disappointed. Gloomy bus home.

We badly missed Appiah, Lubala and Longstaff.

I do hope that Blooms hasn't been nobbled by Humes and Co

Because today was a return to the bad old days.

Few shots lone striker and chasing the game.

We must do better.

Joint bottom on 9 points.

I'll echo Noah's match review. Apart from the pleasure of his company for the match, overall a very poor afternoon's fare, apart from perhaps Nouble's run into the box just before the first substitutions, but his effort on goal was well over the bar in the end. Sears was ineffectual, although he didn't really receive anything to give him a chance On the rare occasions he beat the offside trap, the inept linesman considered it differently and raised his flag. But for the goal, which was a mile offside, saw fit to keep his flag down. The referee was also dreadful, definitely their man of the match. What was most disappointing was for all their possession, Swindon never really threatened that much, and really were there for the taking if we'd played at the same tempo and conviction as Tuesday night. But as Noah said, we inexplicably reverted to a dour Wayne Brown defensive overcautious and unimaginative 4-5-1. Maybe it was tactical, maybe it was just a squad bereft of confidence reverting to type, but Bloomfield has to get a grip and sort that out. The only positive, I was probably home about the same time the CUSA coach reached the M4.

Heyho, no one is relegated in October, plenty of time for things to improve, so next stop Newport - see you there Noah!

Up the U's!

Edit: One other positive, Southend fail to make the FA Cup 1st round draw for the first time since they co-founded the old Third Division in 1920 - chin up Shrimpers, better get used to it.

Bizarre a derelict container set alight at Roots Hall.

Meanwhile Woking set a fire under Southend's cup hopes.

Not really bizarre

Good old Ron needs £100000 to pay HMRC and a mystery fire happens.

Hope the insurance pay out fails

Frankly it is about time they were wound up.

This is a perennial issue at Roots Hall.

Anyway we have enough worries of our own.

A win in South Wales is now a priority.
