If his playing visa comes through in time, it will also be the debut of Adithya Ashok, our sensational overseas signing that has already featured in First Class Cricket for Auckland, New Zealand U19’s and New Zealand A.

Colchester & East Essex CC is the club that produced Graham Napier, Reece Topley, Ben Foakes and Tom Blundell (NZ)……and me 😂

Was good to see a fair few Col U fans today watching Colchester & East Essex achieve their third consecutive win to stay joint top of the Essex Premier Cricket League.

Next two Saturdays, the First XI are away (at Brentwood and then Buckhurst Hill) then back home to Wanstead & Snaresbrook. The Second XI will be at Castle Park.

The really good news is Adi Ashok’s playing visa has finally come through. Adi plays First Class Cricket for Auckland and has represented New Zealand at under 19’s and recently for the New Zealand A Team. Joe MacGregor, Loughborough University Captain (and has played for Essex IIs) followed up his recent 50 for Glamorgan’s Second XI with a fine match winning 80 today. The standard of cricket at Castle Park is outstanding, and admission free. Plus Bar open!

Will do Bewildered.

This Saturday the First XI are away to Brentwood CC, then the following week are away to Buckhurst Hill. Then the following week is the big one at home, versus Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC.

Their star batter, Robin Das hit a century for Essex versus Ireland, then tonight hit his maiden UK First Class T20 50, albeit he has been successful in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 competition. Long time Essex II’s captain, Joe Ellis-Grewell is Wanstead’s star bowler. They repeatedly win the Essex Premier League

The Second XI are therefore home for the next two Saturdays.

Watched Das last weekend field, at the Essex & Ireland mix and match fixture, where Sterling hit a century on the second day. He might not be available has Dan Lawrence at present in the England squad ( not sure how ) , so could well be in the Essex squad .

Adi Ashok’s player visa is (at last) granted and he makes his Colchester & East Essex debut on Saturday (03/06) at Brentwood CC. Adi has taken 20 wickets in merely five First Class matches in New Zealand and has already featured in both New Zealand U19 and A XI’s.

Adi will make his home debut on Saturday 17/06 versus current Premier Division champions, Wanstead & Snaresbrook CC.

Colchester will be coming up against a bowler for Brentwood by the name of Bailey Wrightman tomorrow ( hoping l have the correct spelling without further research ). If l am not mistaken, Bailey came to a net session at Castle Park towards the end of last season. I watched him bowl from the side of the nets and he looked mighty impressive. Fast and accurate. I think he may have played in a match for Kent at the beginning of last season.

Message for Noah - let's hope it's warmer than last night for the 20/20 match against Mistley.

Update, it's Wightman ( not Wrightman ) who is likely to open the bowling for Brentwood in a few hours time. He has quite a CV with appearances for Kent first X1 and second team appearances for Kent, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Hoping Joe and Faz survive what is likely to be a challenging beginning to the innings.

I thought Charlie Watts bowled quicker than Wightman and whilst Joe MacGregor early nicked one down the leg side that a weaker batsman would have missed and benefitted from a wide, Faz Ahmed, Guy Haines, Simon Fernandes and Adi Ashok were fearless in an interesting game.

Brentwood batting first raced to 95 in a mere 12 overs, before Kiwi U19 and A XI international Ashok put the brakes on, while the wickets tumbled to other Colchester bowlers that had looked more inviting, yet resulted in the home sides downfall. 233 all out looked an inviting total, and Colchester should have perhaps cruised it after getting to the last 10 overs requiring only six an over with plenty of wickets in hand. But mirroring the collapse in the Brentwood innings, Colchester wickets tumbled to poor shots as the lesser bowlers were targeted. Needing 7 from the final over and 2 from the final ball, a scrambled single resulted in a rare Tied game.

Colchester & East Essex remain unbeaten in the Essex Premier League, but drop to second, four points below Hornchurch CC. However, with 25 points to offer in each of the forthcoming declaration games, remain well placed. The debut of all-rounder Adi Ashok highlighted why he is so highly rated by New Zealand. His 50+ was classy, and his (limited) 10 overs miserly. In the declaration format, he can bowl twice as many overs and will make a major contribution as this season continues to unfold. It is another away fixture next week to Buckhurst Hill, then home to current league champions, Wanstead. Free admission to Castle Park, bar open all afternoon serving decent real ales.
