Shrimps to be potted at the JCS on Saturday 14:04 - Oct 6 with 2379 viewsdurham_exile

Well here goes. Tuesday night was certainly a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show; our only consistent thing is our inconsistency. The ill discipline is killing the team. Back to the dark days of No points from Away matches. And so, it goes on.

The Managerial sack race has started in League Two with Sparky and Neil Harris gone. The Gillingham situation is bizarre as they sit in 8th position. The joy of such rarefied air is virtually unknown in North Essex. I notice that there are supporters already suggesting that BG will only last until Christmas.

I went to Bradford where we lost 2-1 after dominating the game. Drove to Walsall where only a piece of individual brilliance divided the teams and Crewe on the train where I am still mystified as to how we lost the game. I have Grimsby and Accrington coming up and frankly we should start to settle down to play some football which sees us winning far more games than we lose.

This weekend Derek Adams bring his Morecambe side to the JCS. The Shrimps are unbeaten in three games – luxury, but BG must instil in his inconsistent side the necessity to win this game and win it well. They have Micky Mellon’s son Michael up front on loan from Burnley.

Of course, changes were inevitable against Newport with two suspensions both of whom will be back on Saturday. But we are now without Arthur Read after a senseless Red card at Rodney Parade. Born out of frustration and the fact that he had been kicked at least three times but it does not condone petulant behaviour and he now misses the next three games.

First half we deserved to be in front and of course the big question was the ball over the line from Samson shot on half time. Second half though we were abysmal, but still had chances to equalise with Tovide missing an easy header and Ihionvien failing to shoot first time with the net gaping.

Owen Goodman has once again been called up to the England U20 squad but I suspect that he will be available for the Morecambe game. Failing that Tom Smith is an able deputy.
The injuries continue to affect the squad with Kells, Lawrence, Dallison, Iandolo, Edwards and Akinde all out. The word is that all except Iandolo and Akinde are likely to be back before the end of October.

Frankly I can’t wait to see Owura Edwards on the wing in a U’s shirt again. Perhaps the Accrington game. Let’s hope so.

So, 3,4,1,2 it is:

Goodman

Egbo Mitchell Hall

Fevrier McGeehan Mingi Kazeem

Chilvers

Taylor Tovide

Subs
Smith Bandeira Hopper Ihionvien Cooper Terry Beadle

Saturday without defeat will see four games unbeaten and I think that we should win 3-0 with Taylor returning to scoring form (a hattrick would be nice).

The weather on Saturday in Colchester will be 23 degrees Celsius, Sunny and dry. Amazing temperatures and conditions.

Now will BG ensure that it is his Dr Jekyll’s team that we see on Saturday rather than his alter ego Mr Hyde. We want to see the fast free flowing football but we also want three points in order to get away from the relegation zone.

Col U 10 10
Tranmere 11 9
FGR 11 7
Sutton 11 4

Morecambe won’t bring 1000 so expect the crowd to be down, but let’s give them something to cheer.

No iFollow TV for me this weekend sadly.

Enjoy the game.

Up the U’s

We can’t even blame Humes!

I wasn't there today, but on the radio it sounded like a re-run of Newport.

Humes was a problem for us for different reasons - negative tactics and trying to influence them on inexperienced head coaches we brought in or promoted from within. Rather than bringing in an older experienced one who would have told him to get lost.

All 4 should go, none are good at their job

U’s could not monopolise, on a get out of jail card given from the ref, when we’re only one nil down just before half time, where already the visitors should have been streets ( or is it hotels ) ahead in terms of goals and quality.
Classic just turn up day, being our forte, something we come to specialise and do consistently.
Another Nomemtum day to highlight on the fixture list.

I'm sorry but losing at home to ten man Morecambe is simply not good enough.

These are grim times indeed.

Mr Hyde is taking over and in the story we all know what happens.

We couldn't afford Sparky's suits but Harris would be the experienced manager we need.

But another manager so soon. It is almost unthinkable.

The only way is up for the U's

Nailing my colours to the mast, I still believe in what Ben Garner is trying to achieve, and he needs time to achieve it - BUT - anything less than at least 4 points from the next two games and I agree he's probably on thin ice. We all know Robbie isn't a 'knee-jerk' firing chairman, and I suspect he will stay loyal to Ben whilst we can show (occasionally) we're world beaters, and on too many occasions world chumps. But he's invested heavily this season, and without any disrespect, if he sees that investment going south, he'll act.

Having seen the goals it is even more embarrassing.

Shocking defending for the first two and the third should have been closed down.

The squad that we have this season is better than the previous two seasons
I know that we have injuries but there is no excuse.

I think BG is on thin ice right now and will fall through if the next 2 results are not good. He has good intentions but its not translating to good results. I agree on anything less than 4 points from next 2 and he'll be in big trouble.

Unfortunately good intentions don't win matches!
Brown et Al had good intentions.
Biggest mistake was letting JMcC go. Yes I know not scintillating football but we were always on the edge if the top 7 with him.

Yes letting McGreal go was a huge mistake in itself. Appointing Steve Ball in his place was an even bigger one.

Interesting post match comments by BG, stating that some did not do what they the told for the second half. The blame game they’re for all to see and you to sort BG. Unfortunately two, three players are learning the trade and fast tracked to first team level without a good foundation of loan outs and so results suffer due to the consequences.
Changes next week predicted, will be interesting .

Guess it depends upon who from the treatment table have recovered.
Is Matt Jay injured wasn't on the bench.
We let e penitence in Newby go on loan.
Frankly so.e of the decision beggar belief.

Never really understood that view. Out of our last eight permanent managers the team averaged more goals scored per game than under anyone else. Only McGreal and Garner get close. If he was like that as a manager and he did want to influence the managers that followed him, again a view I don't agree with, why would their tactics be completely different to the ones he used when he was actually in charge of the first team?
