Edgy game for the U’s who never got control, but only in brief snippets. Gordon looking more settled playing at this level than at the start of the season. Injury to subbed Read and together with Bishop is starting to leave the midfield a bit thin on the ground, but dropping Payne back and bringing on Taylor and Tovide made us look more proactive. Game should have been over, but the introduction of former U’s player Dobra gave them a more cutting edge upfront.
Yet another ground covering game for McDonnell, wonder how many mlles he covers in ninety minutes.
Decent and well earn’t three points,

Onwards and upwards.

I was there last night and would confidently say that we more or less controlled the first half and the only reason we weren't ahead at half time was a lack of quality with the final ball (not helped by the terrible pitch). Second half was probably a bit more difficult at times but we certainly deserved to go ahead. Their only sustained period of pressure on us came immediately after the goal but we saw it through and completely deserved the 3 points.

Thought we were comfortably the better team for the first half hour and probably should've been ahead. After that they had a decent spell were on top before the break. They started better than we did second half and the balance of the side didn't seem right with no Read or Bishop alongside McDonnell and Payne having to play deeper to accommodate this. If Read isn't fit for Saturday I'm not sure how we best overcome it. The goal probably came against the run of play somewhat but it shocked them a little and we looked more likely to score than they did in the period that followed. The game was a bit stretched in the closing stages with both teams having breakaways that didn't always result in very much. Their full back was lucky to stay on the pitch after two deliberate fouls but Madden ensured they went down to 10 with his reckless challenge on Tovide. We were probably the better team on the night, not by much though, but it is nice for a result or two to fall our way as we've played far better and made more chances in other games we haven't won.

49 points on the board. 12 games to go. We couldn't, could we?

That pull back by Sheckleford was as clear a yellow card as there could be, cannot understand why he didn't get his second yellow for it.

I don't want to jinx anything, but there is an entirely feasible set of results on Saturday that could see the U's 3 points outside the playoffs, with a better goal difference and a game in hand. Then again, we could also be back to nine points adrift. Last ten games form table we're second behind Bradford City, who I'm certain are going to complete the reeling in of 'apparent' runaway champions Walsall soon, and probably go up as champions themselves.

I agree about the second yellow that the right back should have been awarded.

Our game at Valley Parade is going to be an absolute cracker.
We owe Bradford for some close contests at their place in recent seasons.

No reason why we can't beat the champions elect later this month.

What was excellent last night was the wonderful vision of a pass Taylor showed when he played just behind the front line and the work rate even though we played the final minutes against ten of the team to ensure the result It’s not coincidental that work off the ball has improved a team spirit of all for one and one for all mentality.
