I think the likes of Louise Brooks, Jean Harlow, Jane Russell, Marylin Monroe, might disagree (if they were still with us), but I think Bardot was probably the most natural stunner.

Before I actually knew who she was I heard her mentioned on my dad's Goon Show LP (Best of the Goon Shows No. 2 - side 1, Tale of Men's Shirts) in the following immortal line: It was winter when we arrived and the snow lay heavy on the slopes of Brigitte Bardot.

I was intrigued, but when I finally saw her on film I was a bit disappointed, because I didn't find her sexy. Very pretty, yes, but not sexy. Chacun Ơ son goƻt, as she might have said. Nevertheless, she was a confusing cultural phenomenon, an icon of the 60s who somehow embodied the spirit of the age. RIP.
