2006. And was that when coaches were free? Both Hartlepool and Gateshead take over two hours to get to, Lincoln, Grimsby, Telford are all around a couple of hours as is Tamworth which must be about 30-40 miles south of Stoke.

We are struggling to attract much over 2,000 home supporters to most games as it is.
A Saturday fixture at Gateshead at the beginning of November will not be a major draw. We might take 500 at best. It is on the run up to Christmas and many people have other priorities, especially financially.

What I would say is that back in the 80s, when we were struggling to attract 1500 at home, never mind 2000, the FA Cup could always be guaranteed to generate a good away following, irrespective of our league form and position.
Unfortunately, by nationalising the draw from round one onwards, the FA have diluted the interest somewhat, in addition to the current economic climate. | |
