But that in itself is quite sad, What was so special about that time was that new fresh music was popping up every 6 months, it was a fantastically creative time with a great vibe going out. For the guy that asked the peak was 1993 and then the criminal justice bill killed off a lot of the spontaneity and the whole thing moved into the clubs, in the mid nineties you had the rise of the super clubs and Ibizia and the whole thing started to die in the late nineties as Es got crap Coke took over in the clubs and the whole thing became very commercialised.
Ok here comes controversial theory (apologies for those that wil be offended by it)
Re todays music, the kids and twenty somethings of the rave generation were the kids of the 60's revolution parents whose record collection included the beatles, stones, hendrix, floyd etc todays kids and twenty somethings are the children of 80's parents their record collections contain dire straits, stock aitkin waterman and U2 no wonder they dont produce much of any originality. We can only hope that the kids of the Rave generation fare better, but of course we dont have record collections that much anymore for them to thumb through
Interesting.
My boy's doing music technology at college and he's in classes with kids who just want to know how to mike up a rapper for some shi-ite grime. They have no appreciation of music history, influences, hall of famers across genres, or anything outside their area of interest.
He walks in with anything from Orbital, Crystal Method, Freestylers, Kinobe and Leftfield to Pantera, Napalm Death, Slipknot, Led Zep and 36 Crazyfists and they don't have a clue.
top thread this and some good memories , remember the fantazia days very well feel sorry for the kids today as they will never experience days of getting off yer tree, top tunes, no stabbings, everyone havin it

Yeah, a lot of that lot were / are QPR I think.
The old West London soul / funk crowd that became "acid teds" to be fair that lot had as much to do with Acid House taking off in this country as anyone else, that's my opinion anyway.

Walking down those cramped, steep stairs in to that soundproofed room with hardcore drum & bass was one of those classic rites of passage adolescent moments for people our generation, going in to town to get loads of flyers for raves that you werent old enough to go to, maybe you had enough money for a 6 pack of tapes or a couple of records if you were lucky, wicked, wicked days.

i know a few old mates going to this tonight. It will be an amazing night for sure. Tried to get tickets in the 1st round but they we're released online during work hours, next round the site couldn't cope so missed out. So they're doing a Sunday night Shoom25 at Cable too due to high demand with similar line up Rampling,Farley & Heller,Derrick May. Got a ticket for this so coming up from Bristol in the morning, meeting an old mate and gonna get lost in music to take thoughts off our winless streak. Should be fun
Used to go to Shoom,Spectrum & sunday afternoons at Phil Perry's do at Queen's,Colnbrook reservoir around 88/89 amongst other parties/raves..heady days they were..
I thought some of that Boys Own crowd like Farley etc were chelski but a lot of fans forgot their rivalries for a while back in those days.
