The Draw
Names have been kindly drawn by mfb_cufc, and the U'sual Champions League semi-final matches are as follows:

wessex_exile v burnsieespana
RSCOSWORTH v gerry_us

The Matches
The matches to predict, and all are scheduled to kick-off at 8pm, are as follows:
26/04/2022: Manchester City v Real Madrid
27/04/2022: Liverpool v Villarreal
03/05/2022: Villarreal v Liverpool
04/05/2022: Real Madrid v Manchester City

The Rules
Keeping with the format for last year, in addition to score predictions, please predict two goal-scorers as well, these can of course be two from the same side. Three points for a spot-on score prediction, one point for the correct outcome, and one point for each goal scored (including own goals) by either of your nominated goal-scorers.

If competitors can't be separated by number of spot-ons, for a tie-break please also predict the minute of the first substitution in the last listed match, Real Madrid v Manchester City. Your tie-break prediction must be made before that match kicks off.

As always, half-time subs are 46th minute, and injury-time substitutions will be either 45 or 90 minutes. If there are no substitutions at all, closest to zero will win.

None of your predictions (score, goal-scorers or tie-break) can match your opponents.

Score, goal-scorer and substitute tie-break predictions will be for the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count.

Thanks chap, I’d forgotten that. Doesn’t change the outcome of the UCL, as the rules state scoring is always decided on the result at the end of normal time, but might make a difference to Man City.

The Champions League
So we reach ‘half-time’ in the Champions League semi-finals, with the results as follows:

Man CIty 4 (De Bruyne 2'; Jesus 11'; Foden 53'; Silva 74') Real Madrid 3 (Benzema 33', 82'p; Junior 55')
Liverpool 2 (Estupinan 53’ og, Mane 55’) Villarreal 0

Following Man City’s narrow 4-3 victory over German giants Bayern Munich, Villarreal tried to grind out a negative but what would have ultimately been a successful 0-0 draw at Anfield. However, at what some might say is the home of European football, a Estupinan own goal and Mane second in rapid succession give Liverpool a distinct advantage for the second leg. However, both semi-finals are still very much alive, and you have to wonder if both, or even either of the English sides will reach the final.

The U’sual Champions League

Firstly, the UCL table as things stand:



Semi-final 1
Following on from the Man City outcome and 2pts for Benzema’s brace on Tuesday night, burnsieespana storms into a commanding lead on 7pts with not only the result tonight spot-on but added another point for Mané’s goal. With only tonight’s outcome and points for De Bruyne and Júnior’s goals on Tuesday, wessex_exile (me, sadly ☹) is in a distant second place with just 3pts.

Semi-final 2
With an identical point split in this tie, RSCOSWORTH adds to his Man City outcome and two for Benzema on Tuesday with tonight’s result spot-on, also with Mané’s goal as a welcome bonus. He leads on 7pts, with Gerry_us on 3pts with both outcomes and a goal for De Bruyne in the Man City game., but a lot to do to reach the final.

As a reminder to those yet to post, the second legs start next week on Tuesday 3rd of May (and don’t forget the tie-break prediction — just in case). Also as a reminder, predictions can be amended if anyone feels the need, only bear in mind if you choose to do so they still can’t exact match your opponent’s, and yes you can have different goal-scorers for the second legs.
