My apologies to all for an "all 2-1" default (whilst absent on holiday) bagging a decent points score. Sorry for this fluke; I will play properly next week.

Yep, beginning to look silly season in the HG League when a "2-1 across the board" can be second highest scorer especially with all the "zero's" ( including me ) featured this week.

With my recent scoring record perhaps I should look to go with 2-1's for the rest of the season?

Bit of an anomaly, Gerry. From my standpoint, don't select games that would end up 2-1 within the margin of error. Will try and make week 27 reflect that ..

Just thought that the "default" score of 2-1 ( which must be the most predictable score, although I am sure someone has statistics to show otherwise ) is too easy.
Whilst I certainly don't disagree with holiday scores ( I might need them myself in March ) it may be worth thinking about a less predictable default score for next season...
3-0; 1-3...whatever, but default scores often scoring more than an analysed well thought-out posting is at best unfortunate.Just my thoughts Pete, no doubt others will have their own ideas and thoughts.
....and sorry I can't make the Bricklayers "meet-up" during your UK visit, I had booked my time away well before your announcement.. nothing personal. However with you in the country and me out, U's should gain a proverbial hatful of goals, let's hope so.

Wessex (AFC Greenstead) hit the jackpot last week with his default 2-1's (and apologised). I too had a similar fluke this week (and apologised), but I don't think that this suggests that "2-1" is the wrong "vacation" default.

I just got lucky hitting ONE correct score in a very low HGPL scoring week for all. Wessex got luckier; but in a far higher scoring week for all HGPL players (I nearly had as many whilst 'playing properly').

Statistically; 2-1 might have been a banker in past times; but certainly not today. I reckon we are now far more likely to see cagey 1-0's and/or scores of four or more in aggregate; now that each Division seems to be splitting into two as the Fair Play rules create a two tier financial structure (e.g. those with the money and those without); which is now most obvious in the Premier League (which might as well be split into Division A & Division B). Indeed; I reckon to predict more 3-1's than 2-1's.

"It's called testing a theory!"

I just love statistics......especially when others are "testing theory".....

Last Saturday (8 Feb) the 38 football league fixtures generated only ONE x 2-1.
I got really lucky as that (e.g. Mansfield 2 - 1 Southend) was a HGPL fixture and was probably the least expected result of the day which I would never have predicted in different circumstances. Hence; it was a generally low scoring week for most players in HGPL; hence I apologised for my fluky "vacation 2-1 default" five points gained overall.

The previous Saturday (1 Feb) the 36 football league fixtures generated SEVEN x 2-1.
Here; Wessex (AFC Greenstead) benefited from a 2-1 default selection and he too apologised for his good fortune. But it was generally a high scoring week in the HGPL for most; so taken with the previous week's (low) data; that perhaps suggests that 2-1 is one of the most favoured predictions by HGPL players?

But is that a wise tactic? Let's roll our data back much further....

Saturday 25th January offered 20 football league fixtures and again only ONE x 2-1

Saturday 18th January offered 40 football league fixtures and again only ONE x 2-1.

11th January; 40 fixtures; FOUR x 2-1.

4th January 23 FA Cup fixtures; merely TWO x 2-1.

So from the last 197 Saturday fixtures covering all Saturdays so far in 2014 we have witnessed only 16 x 2-1 home wins (e.g. a staggeringly low 4%). I bet that data is a surprise to most!

I spotted this trend a while back and today; my (Prem and football league fixtures) theory is that a 1-0 or 0-1 or very high scoring games are likely to occur more frequently than 2-1 (or 1-2). The statistical evidence is compelling as above.

My conclusion is that the Fair Play Rules have split EACH division into two tiers; where the form sides (often those with most gates/money) wallop the weak and tend to score three (or more); whilst the weak versus weak (or those temporary out of form/ injury crisis/lacking confidence etc.) typically slug out 1-0 or 0-1 battles as both are desperate to keep clean sheets or avoid goal difference slip ups.

In summary; I reckon 2-1 is an excellent "vacation default" for the HGPL league to continue; as whilst there will inevitably be a few fluke weeks; it won't ever disadvantage the best players over a 40 week (or so) HGPL season.

Aha, but this is FA Cup week where "anything" is possible.

Some very interesting stats though Noah and I was sure that I would be proven wrong in my assumption. Now looking forward to Saturday for some more stat provoking results.

...and hoping for 1-2 tonight.
