U'sual Champions League: Week 4 and round-up 13:03 - Mar 13 with 515 viewswessex_exile

Week 4 predictions required, plus the round-up for Week 3, which has seen stunning performances from some PL'ers.

Group A
-----------------------
Oh dear, let's start with the most notable success first - a sensational two spot-ons and two outcomes for Gerry virtually guarantees him not only qualification for next round with still four to play, but almost certainly the Group A title. Coomster has done his best to stay in touch, with a spot-on and two outcomes of his own, but a five point gap is surely too much to make up in Week 4. Not that it'll matter much, as the chances of your truly catching Coomster and sneaking qualification, after only two outcomes leaves me 4pts adrift, are remote in the extreme.

1} Gerry..........3/6...15pts
2} Coomster...2/4...10pts
3} Wessex......0/6...6pts

Group B
-----------------------
This one's turning into a right dogfight, with Pete nailing the PSG result spot-on plus two more outcomes to ease level on points with current champion MFB, and ahead on the spot-on tie-break rule. Both MFB and Sevebalo scored well with 3 outcomes each, as with many PL'ers only let down by Arsenal's somewhat surprising draw at Bayern Munich. Sevebalo faces a challenge to overcome the 3pt margin between him and the top two, and still with no spot-ons in hand, but it's certainly not impossible.

1} Pete...........2/5...11pts
2} MFB...........1/8...11pts
3} Sevebalo...0/8...8pts

Group C
-----------------------
Well, what can I say. Thrillseeker will have been dreaming of qualification after hitting two spot-ons and two outcomes for a cracking 8pt haul, and even BFG must have been pleased with his Bayern Munich spot-on and two more outcomes to keep level on points with Thrillseeker - but move aside chaps as Ethics steamrollers through with an incredible three spot-ons to storm 5pts ahead at the top of league, and surely safely through to the next round?

1} Ethics................4/3...15pts
=2} Thrillseeker...2/4...10pts
=2} BFG..................2/4...10pts

Group D
-----------------------
Well, after all the excitement of some sensational scoring in other groups, Group D was largely steady as she goes. Guerno remains top, after finding two outcomes for a total of 10pts, but his lead is trimmed somewhat by Gate who got the Barca result spot-on and two more outcomes, to move into clear 2nd place on 8pts. However, Noah - with three outcomes of his own - remains in touch on 6pts, so clearly this is one group that looks like it's going down to the wire - can the HGPL big-hitters yet justify the Group of Death tag at Guerno's expense?

1} GSY.....2/4...10pts
2} Gate....1/5...8pts
3} Noah...0/6...6pts

Final set of four fixtures (with 1st leg scores in parenthesis) for this first stage as follows - good luck everyone:

Greetings from Penang fellow predictors. I can assure you all that my current form is totally temporary as I am currently sinking without trace in the HGPL. Still, here goes:-
Chelsea (1) v Galatasaray (1). 3-1
Real Madrid (6) v FC Schalke 04 (1) 2-0

WED 19 MAR 2014 - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Borussia Dortmund (4) v Zenit St Petersburg (2) 3-1
Man Utd (0) v Olympiakos (2) 3-1

Without noticing I have gone a bit 3-1 crazy! Still who knows?

Form maybe temporary, but class is permanent Gerry - you could put them all down as 10-1's and I reckon you're still home and hosed.

I agree. All home bankers, although I don't see ManU overcoming a 0-2. That's ManU only in name and past reputation, IMO.

I've noticed my original Chelsea and Real Madrid predictions are the same as BFG's. It wasn't intentional and for purposes of fair play please accept the following as my predictions:

Chelsea (1) v Galatasaray (1) 2-1
Real Madrid (6) v FC Schalke 04 (1) 4-0
Borussia Dortmund (4) v Zenit St Petersburg (2) 2-0
Man Utd (0) v Olympiakos (2) 3-1

Of course if the original predictions are acceptable please use them.

Hope the above makes sense

Evening Thrillseeker - apologies that I neither spotted it nor thought to give an advance ruling on matching predictions, but given that you and BFG are level on points (and probably playing for the 2nd qualifying spot) I will accept your generous offer of revised predictions.

All - for the next rounds, clarification on how many exact matches per group of predictions will be provided in advance.

Still no GSY predictions though...

U'sual Champions League: Week 4 and round-up on 22:10 - Mar 18 with 335 viewswessex_exile

Here's a quick interim round-up after tonight's results - full round-up to follow tomorrow. Whatever happens tomorrow, Gerry is now guaranteed top place qualification in Group A, but my 4pts gives a half-chance to catch Coomster (but only a half-chance - the Man U result may be crucial). MFB stays on top of Group B, but Sevebalo despite scoring in 10 out of 13 predicted so far may still rue that missed prediction, 1 point behind Pete on 13pts but only one spot-on. Ethics is now nailed on to win Group C, but Thrillseeker's honest re-prediction now leaves him 2pts behind BFG and the 2nd qualification place. Still all to play for, but in Group D Gate eases into top spot after Guerno's no-show, but Guerno is still ahead of Noah by 2pts - provided he can post for tomorrow's games in time!

Finally, 3PTS!!!! UP THE U'S!!!!

Predicted this round by what I believed were the fair play rules and didn't duplicate any prediction (last to post) in Group B..

Be that as it may, thrilling final day ahead. Cheers for running an excellent league, Wes.
