The Super U’s head to the Midlands today for an interesting encounter against the Saddlers at the Bescot.
But before we focus on the league match, the Colchester U18’s deservedly defeated their Premier League opposition in the form of Arsenal U18’s 3-0 at the JSCS last night. Lowe, Tovide and Bennett scored the goals, but Endurance Johnson was in imperious form between the sticks for the U’s. Newcastle United Away await in Round 4.
So, Wednesday night saw another point gained on the road but still no goals in the last 5 league matches away from home. In truth we should have won the game with Judge and Sears guilty of misses plus their Keeper should have been sent off after handling outside of the box in the 89th minute. It is now 40 years since we lost at Valley Parade.
Walsall by contrast are sitting 14th in the table and under manager Matt Taylor are struggling. Sadly, I won’t be there today, but I have been to the Bescot many times over the last years. Today offers both an opportunity to break the scoring duck and secure another Away win. I reckon 1-0 to the U’s will do the trick.
Our seventh game in 21 days indicates what a punishing schedule it has been and with continuing injuries and outbreaks of COVID, the U’s like many other clubs are drawing on their reserves and fringe players. Keeping the senior players fit is a problem.
However, the future of Syl Jasper must be under doubt after the petulance when he was substituted in the 41st minute at Bradford. I do hope that things can be patched up because he is a talented footballer, but we need the players to be united and to pull together.
But do Fulham extend his loan with us because I cannot see him forcing his way into their first team any time soon. Let us hope that HM selects him today.
As for the team I wouldn’t change much for the Bescot trip.

After today we have some intriguing fixtures with Hartlepool Home next Saturday and then the game at the new Lawn against FGR on the 21 Dec before Orient come to the JSCS on Boxing Day.
So, plenty to look forward to as the U’s try to climb the table to secure a top seven place. The war chest will come into force for that elusive striker in January.

I can't remember reading that anybody from the club has said money made from the Cups this season is going to be spent on players in January. Unless Sears gets injured, I certainly can't see us signing a striker in January. We could extend McCoulksy's contract or wait on Folivi's fitness, and that is it. Personally I think the money made from Poku and the Cups is going to be used to make-up for the shortfall from getting 2,000 crowds. |  |

We were definitely promised that the proceeds from the Cup runs would be reinvested in a striker in January 2022.
The club must honour this pledge and bring someone in who is going to translate chances into goals.
Perhaps people are happy to tolerate results like the Bescot yesterday but it is unacceptable.
The performance and result at Barrow was great and incredibly our last Away goals were scored then.
