I'd missed this, had it been common knowledge?

He was at our academy for four years, now he's played (and scored) for Man City in the FA Cup.

Chelsea took him when he was 12 and then he signed for City.

What's the point? I expect we get chuff all for our troubles?

This is the problem. The big clubs are just hoovering up anyone with any talent or potential at any age and then spitting them out when they're deemed surplus to requirements. It's a terrible model for the boys involved but pretty sure the big clubs don't care about that because if they have a big enough net they may capture the next superstar. Evidently Norwich, that's little Norwich City from down the road, have 50 PROFESSIONALS under 21. Madness!

I know I rarely have good words to say about our main man, but the money he has spent in good faith on a system that is so shit, is very sad.

Obviously, I want us to go up, but nearly 20 years of throwing money into a bottomless pit, the old boy deserves a day out at Wembley or an open top bus ride before he goes.

I guess it's not a crime to back the wrong horse, or at least one that's been knobbled by the Prem/FA/EFL.

How many more are there that we have wasted time and effort on that are now at Prem academies?

We have had a few kids come through our doors and go onto other clubs. We usually get a decent enough wedge and there are some future fees usually / clauses.

Not a lot of them usually make the grade sadly. But it's the same with boys who do stay with us, get talented lads but just not quite good enough to make the step up ultimately.

We have had a couple this season trial at Premier greed sides, one was at Man Utd. The longer they are with us the bigger the fees are, but we don't often hear about it.

The academy isn't just about players coming up from our own academy either. It certainly does help us attract players from the higher age groups who fall out of clubs. The likes of Tovide, Terry, Lisbie, Kvy, Kent and Tchamadeu have all come from other clubs and we have benefitted from fees from the latter three.

We will even get a percentage of any future fee on Szmodics although its likely a small 5 figure fee, but it all bolsters the coffers. Whether its worth the spend is another question, but it is a string to our bow.
