I think the club had to move to progress.

That is quite a hard thing to say as obviously Layer Road had all the history and all the good memories but was basically falling apart.

A bit like when you have had a much loved car but it then starts costing you a fortune the time comes when you have to say goodbye.

Layer Road for me, ok, I am an old scrote, but there you are, that was my football home, and my Dads and that of all of my mates, The Cuckoo means nothing to me, but hey, I am old, and look back, you should all look forward.

I totally agree with Carruthers. Layer rd has a sort of ring or is it wring to the name ! I also accompenied ? my ole man to Layer rd back in the old days when it cost a penny on the horse and cart bugger I was getting carried away then !
Yes Cuckoo farm? its so bleak yes brilliant stadium fill in the corners !
A new generation will grow to love the new ground just like we loved Layer rd.

Yes (though it pains me to say it)

Why? Long-term future (financial) stability for Colchester United - simple as that...

Progress was not possible at Layer Rd so the answer is yes. The fact that the degree of progress so far is highly debatable is irrelevant.

The long term future of the club justifies the move.

Much prefer Layer Rd though and I don't imagine that will ever change.

Incidently, what is layer Road like these days, has the site been cleared yet? or is it still as it was. Just curious.

Still there (mostly) last time photos were posted on the OMB - though Dave the groundsman would weep at the state of the once hallowed (and imaculate) turf
