Monksway added 16:09 - Dec 13 Plan A stops working when the players start to tire and don't find space. Passes get slower and more predictable. We need a championship plan B with a big centre forward, crosses into the box and second balls. Saints really can't mix it when the going gets tough.

Alehouse added 17:43 - Dec 13 It's no wonder the midfield and forward players get tired. They have to do all the running around while the 3 centre backs stroll around passing the ball from side to side. And when the ball is played into our box, as for the first goal, 2 of them are marking no-body and 1 is failing to get the right side of the sole attacker. We need full backs who can defend, one less centre-half, and one more midfield player. Then we might be able to dominate games.

YosemiteSaint added 19:34 - Dec 13 I think it's fair to say we were a bit unlucky today and should have won the match. But entirely agreed we definitely need a Plan B for second halves especially. Eckert's worked wonders—when we're home and dry by halftime. But recent results suggest he's yet got a steep tactical learning curve. ¶ Meanwhile, poor penalty by Armstrong (he's got to sell it better), two goals via keepers beaten at near posts, and the return of the "hand of God" puts us to the sword.

janecook added 23:04 - Dec 13 The main problem today was caused by going back to the Russell Martin slow possession play. Once Fellows became unavailable we lost our only forward thinking outlet that side. His replacement Fraser spent all game passing back or across the pitch. The January transfer window cant come quick enough for us to get a new goalkeeper, a right back and a centre half that can win a ball in the air

Play three centre backs if they deal well with balls in to the box, but ours don’t and by having three there they zonal mark rather than pick up individuals and responsibility is easily passed over! I feel that Norwich’s first goal yesterday may not have happened if Wood had felt the sole responsibility of not letting the forward get to the near post?! And of course you lose a player in midfield when playing with wingbacks and 3 centre backs. Plus of course our play becomes predictable, particularly in the second half when players tire and replacements aren’t as good!

SanMarco added 08:30 - Dec 15 I thought the idea of all this tippy-tappy stuff was that the opposition got tired in the second half not us. Under Tonda we are world beaters first half and relegation candidates second half. If we are serious about promotion we need to sort the defence out.
