Having praised Scarlett to the heavens at the fans forum (By implication Kolli - Bad, Scarlet * Good) he doubled down and starts him ahead of stronger players; also benches JCS who was Rock Solid at WBA dropping Ronnie back into defence. Some of this undoubtedly complacency about Preston’s league position.
The opening goal was a freak; a frantic clearance, a mistake and a fine finish
Compounded by a questionable red card and a poorly defendant second Preston goal, it took us the rest of the half to get back in the game
But get back in the game we did and the second half performance speaks to the obvious collective team spirit in place at Loftus Road – and Julian must be complimented for that
We are not quite there yet, but at this ridiculously extended international break we sit comfortably in the playoffs. I’m beating away from home. Now the physios have a three week window to clear the congested treatment room.

Difficult to rate the players given such different 45s.
A couple of things: Poku has been getting very positive reviews but I wasn't completely convinced. Although he beat the defender frequently it didn't always lead to much and often he slowed the attack down. He had 10 shots often cutting in from the wing, but only 2 on target.
I thought the red card was fair enough, but the PNE players surrounding the ref may have tipped the balance to red.
And I thought Koki made a big difference coming on at half time. His constant running and willingness to press and take on defenders was a breath of fresh air after a listless first half. |

We managed to work ourselves through of BCs good play, good organisation and pressure and work ourselves into the match with Daniel Peretz producing a great save from a shot just inside our penalty area after a corner at 0-0. Larins fine 1-0 goal made us more comfortable. His second even more so after fine work from Scienza and a bounce out ball to Larin who hammered home at the edge of the 6 yard box after JWPs finish from Scienzas fine cross was blocked. I thought BC were a little lucky with their 1-2 consolation goal but they probably deserved to score at some point anyhow. Matsuki is a great runner with and with out the ball and he ran into space in BCs penalty area to hammer the ball hard and flat into the net from Azaz' fine typical Azaz assist. I loved Mubama coming on and showing he can actually hold up the ball against big ugly defenders and even make a fine assist for one of our great runners, Azaz, who finished with a precise shot just inside the penalty area from Mubamas fine pass. We still take somewhat long to get into matches sometimes, but I like our patience and belief. Worrying to see Downs not come out for the second half with an obvious upper rightsided thigh extensor muscle issue, but Braggy covered well as his substitute.
BC might feel a little unlucky to be hammered 4-1, but that's football sometimes (quite often actually).
Another fine home performance overall by Saints today.
Now 1 or 2 days off before preparing for Wrexham away.

Not sure I agree about Bragg; to me he simply didn't seem able to impose himself on the game like Flynn had done. Maybe it’s asking too much of a youngster but for the moment, based on today’s performance, I just don’t see him as anything more than making up the numbers.
As for the game as a whole, defending deep for what seemed like at least half the game, doesn't of itself make for great entertainment. But the corollary of that is simply, when we break, my Christ we’re effective.
It didn't seem like a 4-1 victory, but that made it all the sweeter. |

The sign of a good side is winning your games when not playing well.
We did that in style today.
Awful for long periods, 2nd best most of the game.
Gifted BC so many chances that thankfully fell mainly to Ballard.
Bizarrely Larin got MOTM for his 2 goals, but offered little else.
Azaz was poor yet finished with a goal and 2 assists.
A result we all would have taken before kick-off
Need to sharpen up and cut out the errors at the back (Sclotterbeck)
The Ref was actually on Bristol City's books - no wonder he gave us very little.
Onwards and upwards - need to convert our home form to away games as well.
A similar win at Wrexham would be great to take into the international break. |

Again I don't think we played that well in the first half but did the important bit and took our chances.. However we absorbed Bristol's early pressure and just left them racking up half chances. Larin is such an improvement over a player like Armstrong because he doesn't need 10 chances to convert one into a goal. We seem to have slightly shifted more into a counter attacking side, which is a sensible with the organised and drilled sides in the championship.
Bragg did well when he came on, just needs to bulk up a bit. All of our players need to be a bit more aware on the ball as we were getting bumped off a lot.

Like Swansea Bristol came to SMS believing they could get a win.A lot of in play changes saw Saints come out comfortable winners
I had doubts about Larin as a main striker and saw him more as a back up He has shot me down in flames and is looking like the bestt bargain we've had since Rickie Lambert
Once we get Tondas punishment out the way he is going to get the richly deserved praise for these results and performances |

A blind man and his dog would have made for a better set of officals.
No obvious plan for the final 3rd of the pitch again, players breaking down at a terrifying rate and we should have lost 1-0. Yeah nothing to worry about because we are on 11pts, lets see how long the next 11 take when we can't score.
When Lampty went off we really needed to change shape but we just sat there doing the same thing over and over. Defence and central midfield were the best I've seen in some time but at what cost?
Still we got to see that strange little man Jones take another 6 months off his own life again. I think he may need help.

The scary thing is, given the final result I don't think we looked that good for most of the match. Agree that our bench ATM doesn't appear to add much to the team later on. However, some new players are going to need some time to get up to speed. |

Good win against a decent Swansea side. I still don’t think we are hitting top form yet but some flashes this evening.
Scienza had the right back on toast and was the pick but good showings from Downes, Larin and Azaz. Schlotterbeck is quickly becoming a key signing for us. |
