Agreed what he needs to do today is pick an extra midfield player and change to 4-3-3, we lost the game in midfield against Norwich let's not repeat the process. My fear is that JS will say he needs a week on the training ground before making that sort of change, if so he needs to realise he has some very experienced players in the squad who theoretically can adapt to a new system. |

Agreed it's time for a change to three midfield players, personally I would go with Field, Morgan and Madsen, there's a combination of talents/skill sets they all have strengths in certain areas, plus some fresh legs in a very busy Xmas period. So we can all see Burrell needs a rest, let's puts him on the bench for a couple of games and start with Kone as the main striker, we lost the midfield battle in the second half against Norwich let's try and avoid that against Wednesday. Truly baffling why anybody would dislike Smyth, he's a true work horse on the pitch, one of our only wingers who understands that you need to support the full back. The same week where he signs a new contract and everyone who posts on LFW seems very pleased, the person posting this abuse is a total loser and let's hope he's banned very soon by the club, that's if he even attends games. |

Agreed I also watched him more closely first half and he won a lot of the ball, shielded it and brought others into play, he was nowhere near as bad as some people are making out, if we're not careful we end up treating him like Paul Furlong who as we all know eventually came good. |

RND heres a possibility Myke, Sheffield United have already told us that they are recalling him in January so we've decided Feck it let's just play him every game. [Post edited 28 Dec 2025 9:55]

Third from bottom on 19 points with a two point gap , hardly cut adrift but their fans are obviously seeing the signs. Rowett knows the division and has the ability to ground out results, can't help feeling that with their resources he has done a decent job to keep them in the division so far, unless they have some funds for the new manager in January it could well go from bad to worse. |

Sadly Brian it was sung more than once and from my recollection more people joined in at later stages in the game, and this does deserve it's own thread it was embarrassing...... |
 | Forum Reply | Full backs and Wingers at 10:08 21 Dec 2025
Having two good full backs has finally made us look more solid at the back, Leicester have two good wingers which were pretty much nullified yesterday. I'm hoping Mr Sheens observation isn't an omen, it's the last home game before the 1st January when I guess he could be recalled and the way our squad is balanced at the moment retaining Davies is far more important than chucking a load of money at Edwards that we may not have. |

Agreed absolutely bang out of order, I guess everybody has their own take on Martis demise but he deserves respect for what he did for the club, I think he was probably brave enough to disagree with Nourry and that was only going to end one way as has been said before CN is a bit of a control freak, I'm the boss we're doing it my way end of. Amazed people couldn't hear it in the Lower loft it started with just a few in R block but as the game went on it seemed to gain momentum and more joined in, it was embarrassing. Cifuentes did a very good job for us in his first season, the second wasn't going so well but he had a much weaker squad than we have now and if I remember correctly there were quite a few injuries to contend with. For me a genuine shame he didn't get a better reception, it's another part of our very rocky road history, we've moved on and I obviously loved the performance and the win yesterday and look forward to the current team developing. I can only echo what a few people have already typed, that was a superb message to all the people who contribute and read the forum, I hope Santa brings you all that you asked for, that would start with a QPR cup run, a top six finish and a case of Peroni, have a great Xmas...... Agreed there's so many varying opinions on the Cifuentes departure and I still have the feeling he didn't want to leave, he said as much as he walked round the ground at the end of the season. Nobody knows the facts because it's how Nourry manages his reign as supreme leader, what we can only surmise is that Marti had significant disagreements with CN and that was always going to end one way as it's his way and you have to toe the line. Sad to see Marti in the opposition dugout but we've moved on as ever and always give our support to the club we support, will be a great atmosphere today and if we can replicate the energy of the Birmingham game we have a good chance. |

Exactly it's normally the total opposite and players are more expensive in January, like you I can't see Southampton wanting to sell unless it's for a substantial fee. We need to show some patience this time and stick with the squad we have till the Summer unless an absolute bargain comes available, we've been burnt too many times before and we need to keep any possible FFP headroom available for the Summer when the best deals are done. |

Great preview, like everyone else hugely disappointed with the way Furlong is being treated by the man/child, first of all why did this have to happen i got the impression he was a good coach and secondly if it really did have to happen because it doesn't fit within the new over hyped coaching structure then at least wait till the end of the season. |
 | Forum Reply | Poku - Missing on Saturday? at 09:13 25 Nov 2025
Well that depends how serious the reported offer was for Varane in the Summer, we currently have him in the shop window and have more than adequate replacements in Field and Hayden waiting in the wings. |
 | Forum Reply | Poku - Missing on Saturday? at 08:57 25 Nov 2025
Mmm I'm thinking more that we're developing players to sell for money, I see Varane the first one off, there was reportedly interest in him in the Summer and we have replacements in Field and Hayden. It may seem controversial but Dembele had his best game for us on Saturday and if we can help him develop more then he may well be in demand and command a decent fee. The Eze money has all but been spent, we have to become a club that develops and sells to give us FFP headroom, we have a squad now which on paper gives us room to sell a couple of players for decent money. The squad seems set up now to develop and sell, we can offload two players in January or the Summer and we can slot other players into their position. |
 | Forum Reply | Expectations for the rest of the season at 13:07 12 Nov 2025
Guess you need to ask CN for the definitive answer to that question, there was plenty in the press saying we had been made an offer and turned it down, some saying it was £3 million plus add-ons, any hard cash who knows most transfers seem to be done in staged payments. The offer was either a Spanish or French club I can't remember which, lots of people saying that he would excel more on the Continent as he would get more time on the ball, totally agree that strikers are more marketable but Varane may be the first cab off the rank, he's the right age and it's a good time to sell in relation to his contract length. |
 | Forum Reply | Expectations for the rest of the season at 11:41 12 Nov 2025
Bearing in mind we are a club who has to develop players and then sell on for profit to give us some headroom in the FFP calculations, the next player very likely to be sold is Varane, it's all very subjective and you won't agree. Varanes transfer value will not either hold or increase on the bench and we have Field and Hayden who do exactly the same job, Fields versatility also makes him an important member of the squad. |

Wow I think it's very sad this thread has dipped to this level, personally I'm disappointed that it's been politicised, but i guess I'm heavily influenced by the fact we lost family in the Second world war. |
