Of course memory is hazy, but now I think of it, by "QPR" Dave may well have meant us as fans rather than anyone actually running the club. |

I'm sure I remember Dave Thomas in AKUTRs writing at the time that Parker and Coney were the only things QPR had actually wanted from the merger. I just assumed that the two things were related. |

Thing about this, and the comment from Mr Sheen you're replying to, and the rather pointed remarks quoted by WilkinsWaterCarrier upthread about "someone before", is that it's it's one of those "two things can be true" things. He was poor last season, but with occasional flashes off real ability both in his first couple of games and then towards end of season. It's only fair to say it would take time to reach the fitness and sharpness to match the pace of this league. Also only fair to acknowledge the guy has really knuckled down to it, doing so while taking a load of abuse. Lot of character, right there. But even though I will always want to give players a chance (and I definitely included Madsen and Celar in that last year) I can also understand why some people, and maybe a certain former manager, had their doubts as to whether he was ever going to. Celar looks to be binned off, and with 7 appearances and no goals this season for Dusseldorf, rightly so. Which shows these things can go either way and you'd need to know the guys pretty well before you can call it (which gets back to why I'm reluctant to write players off.) |

Just the other day Cerys Matthews played a big chunk of it on her Sunday morning show to illustrate an interview about science and I have to say I was thinking there's some bloody good guitar playing on this. |
 | Forum Reply | Chair at 17:06 22 Dec 2025
I tend to agree, but it's largely because apart from Burrell in all those positions there isn't really an alternative in the same class as the first choice. Chair can play as a No 10 or winger. As such Saito, Dembele, Poku, Burrell, maybe Smyth, even Madsen could be used instead of him, depending on the formation. I still have Chair as at least as good as any of those and more versatile. (He's had to be, for years he's been first on the team sheet and then had to fit in with whoever the hell else we've been trying to make into some sort of attack.) So a hell of a lot of other players have got to be on fit and in decent form before a match-fit Chair doesn't get into my starting XI The good thing is that we don't have to drive him into the ground all season now. |
 | Forum Reply | Kone goal at 13:10 21 Dec 2025
I'll be surprised if the goals don't flow again. (Mostly) he's carried on doing the right sort of things even when he's not beens scoring, and Burell has certainly benefitted a few times. Strikers can go through hot streaks and dry spells, it's a little early to call whether his run of 4 in 7 (6 starts) or the run of none in nine is the "real" Kone. |

I imagine that allegation came from some Neanderthal or other in the South London Nazis. Le Saux isn't in fact gay and has spoken about the remarkable fact that he was subject to homophobic abuse on the basis that he read books and suchlike so by definition had to be queer. |
 | Forum Reply | So Cifuentes ? at 12:56 18 Dec 2025
I still look back to that year we didn't have a single striker on the books. It's taken years to address that, with several false starts or stop-gap loan solutions. Without goalscorers, every good performance is really just creating the conditions that might lead to more goals than the opposition and hoping for the best. If anyone was a miracle-worker, I reckon it was Cifuentes and it's why I still have time for him. OTOH I think we have to give credit to Nourry for finally sorting the striker problem, and for whatever reason Cifuentes couldn't work with him, so [shrug] |
 | Forum Reply | Slowly improving. at 20:05 14 Dec 2025
One thing that I think is an improvement (but still a way to go) is that we got the "consolation" goal. Back in August I reckon 'Borough could have just taken their foot off the gas and seen the game out for 3-0 or maybe got a late 4th. Obviously lots to do to avoid getting over-run in midfield in the first place and to be able to press for an equaliser. But the attitude seems decent IMO and that's the start. |

The nearest box to me's been converted. Haven't used the digital bit yet but a thing to watch out for is that where the usual post box slot was has now incorporated a sort of drawer thingy for you to put your parcel in. If you just want to post a letter in the old school way, you still can, it's just the part of the slot for that is now much thinner and it took me a couple of secs to even se that it was still there. (Works just fine, though.) |
 | Forum Reply | What are people’s thoughts on the Club pulling out all the stops in January ? at 00:24 12 Dec 2025
I like the side, I like the coach. Don't want to change much. Don't really care if we go up into the world of wonga, bullshit and VAR or not. Don't mean we shouldn't try, that's what competition's about. I just think that I wouldn't want to be Man City if we could, if I did I'd be a Citeh fan So I'll be OK if we sign someone flash, wouldn't mind Handsome Ronnie back because I reckon he's one of us. But not fussed if we don't, either. I want us to be us as hard as we can, that's all. But I want a cup run, because in spite of all evidence to the contrary, I don't accept that being shite in the Cups is "us". After all these years, I'm still more Mark Lazarus and Terry Fenwick than Vauxhall Motors. |
