More trouble at t’Oldham mill. Director of Rugby and major driving force Mike Ford has walked away from the club this evening. Apparently he doesn’t like “direction that the club is travelling in”. Whither Bottomley now?
And Dale have Scunthorpe home and away and Southend and Halifax away. All teams in the current top eight. Would be brilliant to win all four but all potential banana skins.
Bad day for NL teams in the Trophy. Halifax, Scunthorpe and Tamworth all lose at home to teams from lower leagues. And Forest Green lose at home to Wealdstone. No idea if any of the above fielded weakened teams though.
Thanks everyone. Presumably Dale got a transfer fee when he moved to Leicester who were a decent top flight team at the time? Bit of a thankless role being understudy to Gordon Banks though!
I remember him playing against Dale for Barrow. I was stood next to Colin Smith-Markl at that game who remembered the name. The late 1950s were a bit early for me but my grandad used to mention a keeper called Jimmy Jones from that era.
Does anyone on here remember him playing in goal for Dale in the 1960s? I think he moved to Leicester City from Spotland. I’m asking as his grandson Joe Heyes now plays international Rugby Union for England.
Don’t think Big Reg missed many with his no-nonsense technique!! Seem to remember Stan Milburn being pretty effective from the spot as well. Dennis Butler scored a few in and around the first promotion season too.
I seem to remember Jones skying one over the Sandy Lane crossbar in a match against Bristol Rovers around 2004? It was in stoppage time with the score 0-0.
I might be behind the times but is £6 for just a pie (if you chose not to have peas, gravy or curry sauce) just a tad expensive? My favourite on the old menu was the Traditional Pasty which is no longer available but never mind.
I too thought the attendance was encouraging. Total respect for those Truro fans though. Lots of encouraging things on the pitch too. I’m beginning to think that, on the evidence so far, that Perry, rather than being just an adequate replacement for Beckwith, may actually be a slight improvement. Slightly concerned that Gordon looked to be struggling with a leg injury towards the end. Hope he’s fit for Tuesday. Nice to see a cameo from Tutonda too. Looked fit and raring to go. Two goals never seems to be enough though. If Truro had sneaked a late one it could have been squeaky bum time. Hogan is a good old fashioned stopper centre half so I suppose it’s asking a lot of him to turn into a new John Stones. Ours is the only game in the league this Tuesday so a chance to open a bigger gap on the teams below and perhaps be top of the league by 10pm. Nice prospect of a fit Mani D and Rodney rested and ready to play. We definitely need to take maximum points from the next few home games. Away form is great but there are difficult trips to the likes of Southend, Scunthorpe and Hartlepool still to negotiate.
