Southampton At Portsmouth 1984
at 22:22 28 Jan 2026

Some of you may already know this story. I managed to get it into the program for our meeting against the skates on the 2nd of December 2003.

John Motson‘s commentary on match of the day included the phrase it’s the last knockings now. It wasn’t and exactly 40 weeks later number one son arrived, 30th of October 1984. I managed to get seats in the south stand for me and Mrs Horndean Saint and I also clearly remember walking back to our car parked in Eastern Road behind some young lads saying all we need now is to come across a couple of scummers! Good job they didn’t turn round to see us sticking plenty of fingers up at them! 42 years later and now with two more Saints supporting children as well as three grandchildren going the same way I still have the clearest memories of that day. Without doubt in football match terms the best day of my life!

Good luck, hope it’s a good match. I well remember Hampshire cup matches, my two lads played for Horndean and Clanfield. We had some good games in areas we didn’t normally play including the Isle of Wight.

Welcome to the well known SFC outpost of Horndean. What age group is he? I would be pleased to meet you and watch but may not be able to as it will be my grandson’s tenth birthday. Perhaps you could let me know what time is kick off?

Leaving Home at seven the same as last week to pick up younger son in town and head on up to the game with Mrs Horndean Saint for a change. Back in plenty of time to get a very decent chippy from Shirley High Street.

So How Did The Bubble Trip To Pompey Go ! The Scene Report
at 12:52 26 Jan 2026

Going out on a limb here. My day consisted of a total of 11 hours to get to a stadium only 12 miles from where I live and I was dreading it but to be fair, it was very well organised and safe and the blocking off of junctions and slip roads worked very well both in and out as there would have been gridlock if this was not done and plenty of opportunity for problems.

Plenty of common sense in the planning of the route, the best bit being Eastern Road northbound being closed to allow the coaches assess to the secure area in Rodney Road.

The game of wacky coach races back down the M27 was entertaining as well.

I was speaking to a skate mate earlier and the corner in the north stand adjacent to where we were stood is the most skate mongrel infested part of the ground. They are there every match baiting the away fans on the basis that the stewards and police would save their skins if ever they got to a confrontation. Still, I very much appreciated how happy they seemed with us singing our songs and were even conducting our fans and smiling broadly.

All in all, it was a lot better than I expected and a good fun day out.

Tom Fellows song
at 10:30 11 Dec 2025

Help required please. As is the case with many chants, it's only when enough people join in that you can catch the lyrics. I get the latter part of the chant for Tom Fellows from "Tom Fellows running down the wing" but how does it start?

Also, which original song is this sung to?

Thanks to whoever has the knowledge.

Number 2 son leaving town at 7am in time for a Horndean special bacon sandwich (other types of Horndean special are available but now brewed in Chiswick 😡)

On the road at 8 am to Manningtree with due respect to our left back and his tree for a one stop train ride.

But he’s right though Pat. Truth hurts doesn’t it? We stand or fall with this manager and the style and identity he has created.

Biggest game of the season
at 16:48 19 May 2024

As sated in another thread and I say point perfectly made.

jameshill added 12:01 - May 19
In all the euphoria of of that magical Friday night I wonder if we are going to hear from all those who have spent so much time and energy moaning over the course of what has already been an astonishing and entertaining season and isn't finished yet.
Yes you - the football experts who know Russel Martin doesn't know what he's doing and you - the cod psychiatrists who know we haven't got any leaders and you the talent spotters who know Jack Stephens is no good.
All together now:
'You're not singing, you're not singing.............'
Criticism is valid, moaning is bad for you and more importantly in this context the team!

Do you recognise yourself (not a) sant22?

I don’t normally say too much on this forum. Just sit back and wonder at the negativity from some so called fans of our wonderful club. I too was furious at Cardiff and dismayed at how we would lose some games we have completely dominated this season whereby half of the points thrown away would have seen us automatically promoted probably as champions.
But WTF? Expecting 25000 for what will be the most important game of our season barring the final? Pat surely that was tongue in cheek? Otherwise it’s proper egg on face!! I await your response.

Not sure if anyone tweaked that one! You could be getting a bill for all of the underpriced tickets you’ve bought since he stopped qualifying for children’s tickets!

Just a small thing in one sense but please Nick, do try to stop referring to our Argentinian midfielder as that famous prison! It’s only one letter but makes a world of difference 😬
