I think Gallens point wasn’t really whether they are active in training, more that the drills are the same. |

He also does more than his fair share of helping out on the defensive side. I think he’s one of the few leaders we have. |

It looks like there are a few new roles and if the roles aren’t being replaced, then it’s a statutory redundancy no? That shouldn’t break the bank. Nourry would be the bigger cost to remove but I would also imagine that having a separate DoF and CEO will be more costly annually anyway, so if that’s the route, just got to “eat it”. On the other coaches that would be replaced. Surely you assess them do it over time. This is a tier 2 English football club not some multi-national business with thousands of employees. 1/5 of the Saito money should do it all. |

Yeah good listen. I thought interesting to hear that the coaching isn’t really that different from club to club. There’s no real magic or new ideas involved. They all do the same things. Which makes the point they were also making about “leadership” even more important. |

It’s a good point and one I hadn’t considered. It would actually explain a lot of the issues we had this and last season. |

Who has been “planted here”? And for what purpose? Human nature to want to have a moan more on here I think. |

Fitness and injuries - agree, 100%. If the club don’t realize they’ve got a huge issue here then I give up. “Best environment to succeed..”….. The owners have invested in a training facility, isn’t that all that they need? Then it’s down to the coaching. Isn’t it down to JS and all the coaches to put them all together and form a side that works? And to develop them? On another related note, what on earth does Betsy do? And Bould? The depressing thing for me is not just the results but other than Madsen, none of the players have improved. And is Madsen just a good player who had some personal/confidence/manager issues last season? There is no point in pursing a “development” strategy if we’ve got useless people doing the developing. |

Most people seemed to be generally positive on recruitment as of January 2026. 1 and a bit months later and it’s all rubbish? I still believe that Madsen, Burrell, Kone, Edwards, Mbengue, Poku are good players and good signings. I don’t know what on earth has happened to Varane, Morrison, Dembele and Saito. Not sure on Vale. I’m not going to change my mind on recruitment in 1 month. The general fitness and injuries is an issue. That kills any chance of doing better than last season. But performances over last 2 months have been unacceptable from a tactical and intensity point of view. That rests with JS and his coaches. Sam Field - Even when Hayden and Varane were out, JS still didn’t pick him in central midfield. |

I completely agree on the injuries and I did say that above. But the injuries didn’t really kick in until Sheffield Wednesday game. The results and performances after Leicester but before Wednesday game were very poor. We absolutely cannot expect to do well in this league losing Burrell, Madsen and Chair. However, I don’t think that completely justifies the absolute rubbish that has been served up since. And JS can’t moan about fatigue and number of fixtures and then play Burrell every minute and generally only make subs after 70 minutes. |

When have we been consistently around the playoffs up until around 10 games ago? Warburton was the last one I think? And given the age of that squad, look at how that left us in the season Ainsworth was in charge. And I’d say it’s taken us a while to recover from that. I also hold JS partly to blame for flogging 3 key players to death in Burrell, Madsen and then Chair. Those 3 injuries have cost us the most this season. But that also doesn’t explain the lack of intensity and the fact that the players look so confused. How can you go to Birmingham and play like that first half? What is is saying to them to get them up for the game? What is telling them to play like? |

This same squad had us 7th on Christmas Day and we were still 7th when we were beating Wrexham with 5 minutes to go. People were pretty happy with the squad then. Lots of people happy with the recruitment and with the “good eggs” we had in the squad. And now it’s rip everything up? What exactly are we aiming for? Get a load of ex qpr players in because they “know the club”? We tried that before and it didn’t work. The injury situation and the general fitness is ridiculous and if the club doesn’t admit it and do something about it, then a lot of heads need to roll. I am amazed at the lack of criticism for the manager. He was brought in to develop players and all of them, except Madsen, has gone backwards. We have injuries but we have enough fit players to put on a better show than we have in what 2 months? We can talk about lack of intensity….but isn’t that his job? The players look confused….again his job. |

Blimey mate, you’re more depressed about us than me! Still think for us it all went wrong from those mad 5 minutes against Wrexham. [Post edited 7 Mar 6:41]

But what choice did club have? You can’t make the coach pick him. I do agree we could all see this coming. The Field and Varane/Hayden partnership is always a solid option. |
 | Forum Reply | Stephan at 22:20 1 Mar 2026
Would JS be playing him in central midfield? With Varane out and Hayden “rested”, he played Morgan with Madsen. No wonder he wanted to leave. Field wasn’t given an opportunity after Oxford at home to play central midfield…. |

Eh? I’ve never said the injuries and fitness of the squad was acceptable. It’s ridiculous and something needs to be done about it. I thought recruitment was generally ok….I thought you thought the same. However I really can’t see what is wrong with asking why JS does or doesn’t do certain things. Why on earth are we playing only 2 central midfielders at Southampton? Why is he hanging Esquerdinha out to dry yesterday? As he did against Ipswich. Why on earth don’t we adapt depending on who we are playing? |

After a 5-0 thumping and losing 3-1 to Blackburn at home, I couldn’t care less about my full backs getting forward. I’d like my back 4 to be solid or maybe just maybe we could consider a back 3 with wing backs….try something different. I’d be fine with Esquerdinha at wing back as it is much less pressure defensively for him. To start him again at left back against one of the stronger sides, I think is ridiculous from JS. He did vs Ipswich and cost us. Esquerdinha was perfectly fine against Oxford….but that was Oxford. We seem to pick a team with paying no attention to who we’re playing. [Post edited 1 Mar 18:24]

A strategy a support then and now…if they’re good enough. But, for first team selection is has to be the manager. It’s not as if we didn’t have other options. Edwards at left back as an example, with Mbengue, Dunne and JCS. |

Up the pecking order is one thing….as in he’s the first team squad. But the coach picks the eleven and squad for match day. Your first post above implied Nourry was forcing his selection. I thought we’d moved on from that. |
