Ok.....let's possibly look at this another way......a forward who has a different skill set to those rhat we already have.....think Stones (York) who bullied EEL into making x2 mistakes which resulted in x2 goals conceded. You don't have to be an absolute thug to bully opponents......just a more 'physical' player with a bit of presence.!
Name one of the current squad that you wouldn't mess with if you were an opposing player? Doesn't have to be SQ.....just a bullish sort player of that of ilk!
I'm not saying that Quigley suits our style of play. I'm thinking more about his personality. In my eyes, Jim is still a coach and not a real manager as of yet. Players with different personalities need to be managed. I don't want us winning the best behaved trophy for the 15th consecutive year with solely a bunch of choir boys who wouldnt say boo to a goose. I want us to win promotion. Taylor could surely sort a couple of bad apples out?
I know that I'm going to get accused of hitting the mulled wine too soon from some on here, but I've been thinking of how we could possibly bolster the squad in light of the recent news regarding pitch renovations and the costs involved. Other teams will soon be adding to their squads in preparation for the second half of the season. We have quality running deeper than previously, and I realise Jim has identified a certain profile that he wants in his players. However, in my humble opinion, I fear that nice footballers with polite footballing etiquette both on and off the pitch are not necessarily going to get us over the line. Other teams have players and managers within their ranks who have that bit of mongrel about them. Who is going to hold the ball up in the corner with a couple of minutes to go in order to secure the points? Who is going to get into the referee's face to question a dubious decision? Who is going to get a grip of an opposing player and put the fear of God into them? Don't be mistaken in thinking that I'd prefer a team of hard men and cloggers. But, perhaps, an experienced free agent like Quigley might be the difference needed. He's a year older that EEL.....knows the club and the league.....a big unit who can hold the ball up......good in the hair......chips in with goals...a pantomime villain type who opposing fans would warm to......and a man that I certainly wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. Thoughts please.......
Watched the second half of Boston v Carlisle.....very impressed by Boston's Dylan Hill. He reminded me of Cian Haynes.....diminiitive....and all action style with low centre of gravity and tricky. Same ageat 22 yrs of age.
Surprised that some York fans are saying what a great game and advert for National League football. I thought the defending was pretty atrocious and offence lacking quality. We would have beaten both teams on that performance
