Asmir has put up the post below on FB in the last hour: doesn’t sound like a man announcing his departure from the club to me…… I’m guessing he left out the word ‘go’ in the last sentence.
My 19th professional season officially came to and end today.
This past season has been an incredible ride, full of ups and downs. Super proud of all the players, staff, and supporters sticking together and keeping this great club in the Championship.
Looking forward to a well earned break and and we again next season! ⚪️🔵🆎🧤
I’ve seen a few social media posts saying we should play him whatever he wants to sign a new contract: absolute madness. Looks like he clocked out months ago to me and has very little connection with the fans. Cifuentes has played him as he realised that he needed his creativity in a small and low quality squad to stay up: job done, we shake hands and he gets a nice signing on fee and a pay rise by going to Middlesbrough, Sunderland or Hull.
Will be interesting to hear from people at the game about the players’ reactions to the fans at the end: normally a good indication as to who is off in the summer.
He’s not retiring: he’s hoping for another season or two elsewhere. Was a handy player for us for a few years and it’s always good to see a true QPR fan playing for the club. All the very best for the future Uncs.
As with most conspiracy theories the evidence is flimsy at best and it would have taken loads of people to be in on it and for none of those people to say anything for the next 25 years. Also their keeper played over 600 professional games in his career nearly half of which were after he left Palace so hardly the type to risk it all by throwing a game. And suggesting QPR subsequently threw the following season’s two games as part of the deal is proper fantasy island nonsense as well.
Both ends of the upper tier were kept empty against Leeds, obviously major restricted view issues on the Ellerslie side but not on the South Africa side so assume it was to keep opposing fans separated.
I’ve called out the ridiculous over the top whinging about Begovic more than most on here and think overall he’s done alright and he’s certainly played his part in us staying up.
I’d still hope the club can sign a more mobile younger keeper who fits into Cifuentes’ playing style though.
No way should we ‘thank’ Premier League clubs by playing loan players for no reason. Smacks of tugging the forelock to the kind big teams for allowing us to borrow one of their brilliant players. As if Wolves and Newcastle have leant us their players out of kindness: it benefits them as well.
Honestly why would we weaken our team by playing Hodge just to thank Gary O’Neill?? Literally pointless: he hasn’t been in the team because he’s not as good as a number of other players in his position and can see no benefit of starting loan players in the final game of the season.
Cifuentes knows what he’s doing: the last thing he will want is to put out a deliberately weak team and get thrashed in the last game of the season. He will want to go into the summer with a positive result if possible: momentum is important.
So you think it was acceptable for Willock to pretty much down tools because of Ainsworth’s lack of suitability to the job? Thank goodness most players kept putting in the effort or we would have been relegated last season.
Sorry I disagree with your Ainsworth comment. For sure the style of play didn’t suit Willock but when he was selected he was bloody awful and his attitude and effort stank. Compare his attitude to Chair who kept giving 100% despite also being badly affected by Ainsworth’s tactics.
Are the speakers THAT bad in the away end so those poor Leeds fans couldn’t hear at all? Mark’s speech was clear, impassioned and as loud as I have heard anybody speak on the pitch at Loftus Road so it seems a pathetic excuse to me.
I agree. He’s clearly not interested in staying and overall he’s been poor for the last few seasons: partly due to his injury record but also due to a lack of application and poor attitude I think. Was excellent last night though.
