Well, this season at least, what you say about 16th place was not true, based on the LFW poll below.
The votes were cast surprisingly evenly for every option, with no option getting less than 13.3% or more than 15.6%.
That doesn't make me any less frustrated with the team/club, though. We still seem to be overcomplicating things, we continue to struggle to do the basics consistently and let's be honest, we haven't had a decent midfield since Scowongoman, unless I am mistaken.
Just when you think we're going places, we disintegrate. Then, when you have grudgingly accepted that we're rubbish, we splutter into life as if someone has finally pulled the choke out. It's so confusing and unsettling.
That reminds me of something I once read about the pioneer of electronic music, Klaus Schulze. He had an orchestra - or perhaps it was just a string section, for reasons of practicality - hold the same note...for ten minutes!
Good post. Tests are five day affairs, there's no need to try and hammer every ball. Unless you're bowled rank balls early on, it makes sense to allow yourself a few deliveries to get used to the pitch, the bowlers and the light.
What isn't mentioned on here is that they have also produced the world's largest battery - vanadium based - and built the world's largest hydroelectric dam.
That said, EVs aren't green, they are *greener*. A truly green car would have to made of a tree growing in your garden, with your own bare hands . Anything manufactured is going to involve greenhouse gas emissions. There are no perfect solutions, apart from walking, I suppose.
"Climate change is a fact - it's been happening for millions and millions of years."
Yes, but the many, peer reviewed studies which have indicated that recent CC and GW are man-made take into account natural influences on our climate. They allow for Milankovitch cycles and solar activity.
Just to point out that diesel and petrol vehicles cause health issues related to air pollution, at great cost to the NHS. There are 43,000 premature deaths annually in the UK due to air pollution.
"Caveat, charging at those forecourts can be very expensive, so if this would be your main way of doing I'd be cautious".
Very good point. I've had EVs for 10 years now, but, being temporarily in a rented house with no drive and therefore no charging point, I'm stuck with using commercial chargers at the moment. Some of the prices are insane, I've seen places pricing their electricity at 89p per kWh!
One supplier worth trying is Arnold Clark. They've recently launched their network and while it's a bit thin in some parts of the country, it is currently amongst the cheapest network of fast chargers I have found, at 55p per kWh.
I really struck it lucky the other day because I went to one of their charging stations located at a Mercedes dealership. While I was charging, I got to sit in a plush showroom and one of the staff brought me complimentary coffee and biscuits .
"Turning the sound off second half, there’s only so many cries of ecky thoomp a man can put up with."
Haha, love it. On holiday in Italy once, I got to know a couple in their thirties from somewhere in north west England who, without a word of a lie, regularly and naturally used the word "chuffing". Quality .
"Final Step: Get a girlfriend who speaks the language / or go stay in some random small town where no one speaks English! Forced immersion works every time.."
Good idea but no guarantee of success: For a while, I had a French girlfriend and even though I had a degree in French, she regularly told me the phrases I was using were incorrect. I knew my French was grammatically correct, but I think her angle was that some of my French was not current. Fair enough, I suppose.
Another approach which might help some people is to follow a foreign football team on social media. On X, for example, Atalanta tend to tweet in Italian but with the English translation directly underneath.
I have a set time every week which I allocate to teaching myself a bit of Italian, namely when I am washing up on a Sunday afternoon. I have the textbook propped up on a bookstand next to the sink. I leave it there all the time, so I can have a look at it whenever I'm lurking in the kitchen. The regular repetition really helps.
Good luck, learning a language is one of the best things you can do for the health of your brain, alongside exercising and learning to play a musical instrument.
