Cooky Monster
at 09:51 1 Feb 2026

Cookies been terrific at the back partnering Jimmy. And at 35 too! I too thought he was going to be in and out with the foot injury from last season but he’s come through it in style. Wages will be the big issue I think. If that can be sorted it will be a tough conversation.

I think we need to move on though. Those wages could give us two other players easily. We need to look to the future and get Jimmy and Ronnie paired up equally successfully.

PS Cookie is one of my favourites so will be gutted to see him move on. True pro and bloody good player.

I thought Smythy had a really good game yesterday. A pesky little mite who annoyed and kept coming back to annoy more. Yes, he does go down too easily sometimes but he also gets us free kicks in good positions too. That will keep defenders very wary. I wasn’t sure about the penalty - seen them given though for sure; I’d have been shouting for it.

Thought the ref was barely OK. How Cov didn’t get some yellows I don’t know - especially after the Kone booking. There were two or three similarly rated transgressions that would have warranted yellows for me. That mugging of Smyth in the corner!?

I never get how a player can be physically shoved in the back and it’s not a free kick - saw them do it a few times yesterday, us also, how can it not be a foul to shove a player hard in the back so he loses the ball or control?? It was nice to see less of the manhandling bullshit that goes on at corners.

Enjoyable game. Great result. Let’s follow it up with a strong winning run now. And we’ve got some of our better rated players yet to come back FFS! Gonna have to work to get your places back lads.

I liked the look of Bennie yesterday. He looks to get involved. He didn’t shy away from a big game. Interestingly he got into positions that other players didn’t mind giving him the ball, that shows they trust him.

I thought he needed to improve his decision making and be more instinctive. He did make the mistake for their goal in losing the free man, just needs to own it and move on (we won, it’s OK). Had a few chances to score, believe in yourself Dan.

If the lad knuckles down, listens to the manager, and keeps pushing for a playing spot while he has the opportunities around our injuries he could progress nicely to push on next season. If he’s not around the squad next season, teams will be queuing up for a loan - they’d be stupid not to.

Surprised to see some of the negative comments today. Especially for a young player coming into the game for extended minutes. Yeh, Bennie made a mistake and Cov got a goal but he contributed to a win against a top of the league side. If young players are going to come in and we’re just going to beat them up for not being a seasoned players I’m not sure we deserve to develop players. Poor shout from some I’m afraid.

Some great performances today. Smyth - what a niggly dynamo he was today, defenders must be really frustrated playing against him, he’s like an annoying mosquito full of energy and keeps coming back at you. Back four were very good today, Dunne & Cookie strong as we expect, RND was brilliant (and he won back the ball for the first goal), enjoyed see handsome Ronnie pushing up later in the game. Madsen!! What a game - MoM. Kone had a strong game, up and down the pitch but mostly working hard up front, great to see him get that goal. Vale is going to get better and better. Some good performances today and a top result to bounce back after last week. Well done Julien and the boys. Enjoy your evening team and management. You deserve it.

Christian Nourry - Two Year Anniversary
at 10:27 28 Jan 2026

Definitely defined camps around Nourry (and the wider club possibly). The haters, the likers and the in-betweeners. I’d probably stick myself in the likers to in-betweeners. The strategy has only really just started but it’s not doing too bad to be fair to him/the club. But there’s a way to go yet before we look to see the full benefits we are after.

He’s shaken a few things up (you’ll get no likers for that in and around the club - eggs and omelettes etc); he’s made it pretty clear he’s on the develop and sell path, which has worked for other well run clubs; he’s not afraid to negotiate to get some good sales from players we probably would have gift wrapped in previous times; he’s building the development squad, a very hit and miss target; all in all he has brought in players other teams and media are talking about. So lots of positives.

He shows his youthful inexperience around his communication and ‘need’ to control the narrative. He needs to learn to bring people in not exclude them. I wouldn’t be extricating him too much for that, he’s young and hopefully learning (a good mentor would be really good for him).

The whole fitness thing is bewildering and if he has a blind spot for this he will definitely come a cropper if he isn’t prepared to deal with the difficult situation he has caused bringing in a buddy. Always fraught!

He’s done lots of good. He’s done some bad stuff. Nobody’s perfect and as long as it’s on the upward trajectory I’m happy to see it out with him so far. The next couple of years should tell us (I hope - I/we have all waited long enough for some bloody positivity). Top half would be a result for this season - let’s see if this group can achieve it - or maybe hilariously over achieve (not so sure on that one).

Also begs the question why our team were really up for whipping Marti and his team at HQ this season. Has to have been something there.

Marti gone...
at 23:31 25 Jan 2026

I liked Marti but the way he went wasn’t pleasant and I do feel he designed his way out for a way better job with Leicester. It’s backfired big time and he’s yet another manager who’s tarnished his reputation.
I know lots here still love Marti but he didn’t want to be here so ‘asi es la Vida’.

I don’t mind Julien, there’s no doubt he can improve but he does get on with the job and hasn’t over-inflated his ego on everyone around him. I prefer where we are with him than Marti. Shit, it’s not perfect but I’ve had f*cking years of my club being far from perfect, so not perfect is pretty good today.

2nd Wrexham goal

The ref was inconsistent though Benny. Smyth being pulled, kicked and pushed all game long by Kabore - once again how many times does a ref have to talk to a player to realise he needs to stop it with a booking. Smyth does one reckless tackle and he’s booked. More ifs buts and maybes.
No ifs, buts and maybes about us throwing away the win though.

Thanks for the clarification Stainrod. I guess I read it without any personal history between you both and just a viewpoint.

I just take a managers comments as a necessary requirement, I’m sure they’re equally fed up with doing them and you can only say so much without sounding the same week in week out. We’d probably all complain if we didn’t hear from them.

I don’t think being condescending to another poster is necessary Stainrod.

We all have our views and should be comfortable sharing them.

Have to say I was a HUGE critic of Nico last year, he was absolutely awful. This season he has, credit to him, stepped up enormously from that very low base. Without doubt the most improved player - he needed to be as I think most would have happily moved him on after last season.

Now he is, mostly, a joy to watch with good touch, forward moving, good vision and aggressive tackling. He’s by no means perfect and does go missing, but he IS what I was expecting last season - so he remains a season behind where he should be. Absolutely over the moon to see him as he is this season though. Do feel he could score a few more goals as he has a good shot on him when it works.

Premiership quality? Not so sure on that.
Here’s hoping though for next season and even more from him.

To be fair Wegers, you’re either in the play-off position or you’re not, you can’t be ‘barely’ there. Bit like you can’t be nearly pregnant! Funny how there’s a lot of glass half full / glass half empty going around. Funny old game!

Good post Nix. I enjoy (mostly) the alternate views of everyone, but … and there’s always one isn’t there … it can get very very angry at times and people aren’t always too rational or reflective when they get angry. Feels like some are letting the Marti thing go slowly and the Nourry thing is less prominent thankfully.

For me, last nights performance was worse than Stoke. This team were there for the taking, they were awful. We have a point but we have to look at this game as a failure to be at our best (even without the injured players). Conditions were awful, yes, but on the day they were still awful and we looked so much better first half.

That said, I’ve been wanting a consistent back four to build. They are our foundation, stop the goals and you don’t lose. They have been great and I think it’s 3 clean sheets out of four games now. Also seeing more leadership from Jimmy too.

Where we are losing out is the rest. Uncreative in midfield. Our wingers predictably cut in. Seen various discussions on switching them and I’d go for it. I’d like to see Smyth and Dembele getting to the byline more often - mix it up, don’t be predictable, give the forwards different opportunities. Really not sure what is going on with Kone, he does look slower and lacking confidence in himself; he definitely misses Burrell.

Good news is we’re not tanking and giving up with all the injury losses. You can see some battling out there. 40pts so far and can reasonably expect to get to 60-65pts for the season, not too shabby if almost comfortable after the last few turbulent years. Unfortunately we’ve gone from a good team with a good bench to call on to a bench first team and weak bench. Will be interesting to see how things go against the Hollywood Taffies now.

C’mon u Rrrrsss. Let’s step it up now.

ENOUGH!!
at 08:01 20 Jan 2026

It is a shame that some feel it’s OK to abuse or put down people because they have an opposing view or challenge their comments or point of view. As has been said many times “it’s a forum”.

The great, or frustrating, joy of football is there are many varied and interesting takes on our club, our team and our journey. I enjoy taking on others thoughts and sharing mine occasionally for discussion.

What I can’t abide though is the abuse and name calling - it’s free to be polite. If I wanted abuse nd bickering I’d have stayed married to my first Mrs. Have to admit, I’m a bit older and a bit more calmer about stuff these days but never afraid to push back to a bully if it’s warranted.

Keyboard warriors huh!?!

Ronnie returns, but is it the handsome deal QPR hope? – Signing
at 09:46 10 Jan 2026

Enjoyable read Clive and we’re all with you on the ‘how long before I’m deflated again’ feeling.

The whole Southampton dilemma is interesting … he’s at a club flailing around in general and not getting the personal opportunity (he had with us) to play to his strengths.

Of course you do get those young players who don’t manage to succeed at teams like Arsenal; move to Millwall and get released only to be picked up and excel then get the move to a Prem club; play for England and then the big move towards a potential EPL Champions medal in their first year.

As we know it’s getting the right player, for the right price, and very importantly with the right attitude and desire to work hard and succeed. Let’s hope lightening strikes again for us. We enjoy a couple of very successful seasons with Ronnie and he gets that big opportunity he’s worked hard for.

Great to have him back. The maintenance team will be busy putting some new hooks in his locker for the hair bands, a couple of new shelves for those moisturisers, hair gels, brushes and eyelash curlers and then some slots for the gel soles to keep those feet nice and soft. Ronnie will certainly get his opportunity to excel now. Looking forward to see him get back to fitness and build a great centre back pairing (and looking bloody annoyingly handsome while he does it of course).

Now … those other positions … keeper, full-backs are they all good enough to make a solid defence now? What’s going to happen with that left-back position?

Kolli
at 09:51 5 Jan 2026

No doubt about it, two great finishes to close out a game we should have had sorted by half time. I thought SW looked L1 standard and a few of our players looked comfortable against that level. Others were really quite poor against that team for sure.

On Kolli, I was disappointed with him up to his first goal if I’m honest. I thought he had a real opportunity to make a statement and hadn’t taken it against a poor team. Then he scored right as I was saying it. It seemed to change his performance completely then; he had the bit between his teeth and did exactly what I had hoped he would do when he came on. Fair play though, he’s shown he can contribute, he can score and he can play off Kone. I’d like to see more, especially if Burrell is out for a while. What an opportunity for him at almost 21 y/o!

The lad has skills, he just has to be completely focused and take the opportunities ahead and prove he’s a headache to team selections going forward. Be fantastic to see him step up and keep banging in a few goals here and there against Championship teams now.

So do I take it you would prefer to have Marti over JS?

Interesting you would pick one word (porpoise) out of 5000 to put down his language skills.

Would be more than happy to get one over Marti and his Leicester team.

The win is most important. Beating an old manager a little icing on the cake.

It’s football! It’s tribal. All part of the fun.

Come on lads let’s get the win and show him we’ve improved as a team and enjoying our football (mostly) again.
