'Martin Out' fans are clueless!
at 19:20 24 Sep 2024

Whatever is said on here, Russel Martin is generally popular in the stadium. A large number of fans were singing Russel Martin's red army, and many cheered him as he lapped the pitch at the end of the Ipswich game. It is seriously a much different atmosphere to the Nathan Jones days. There is an appreciation of the joy that Wembley final brought us all. The Ipswich game was a decent performance. The players and manager were clapped for their performance.

I am definitely in the RM in camp at the moment. Give him a bit of time. The grass isn't greener. If the last few years haven't taught Saints fans that the grass isn't greener, then I am not sure what would. Pellegrino to Hughes, Hughes to Ralph, Ralph to Jones, Jones to Selles. Has changing the manager improved things? Most of us with any sense know that the PL is a really tough league, it's difficult as a newly promoted side and we have lesser players. RM needs more time.

Our leader gets free tickets now. I'm sure Rishi, had the same luxuries, but should multi millionnaires get free tickets just because they are the PM, especially when the same PM has taken away money from pensioners this winter? Surely they should pay for their own tickets, in the name.of trust and faith in politics, that he promised. I want my gift please.

I also thought Fernandez was really good. We were much better in defence too without Walker Peters and without Stephens. Looking at the table, it's still early days. We are still "only" 3rd from bottom, as there are other teams who are also really struggling. At least we are improving and I can see Dibling, Ramsdale, Fernandez as possible match winners and really getting good. It will be a struggle, but I can see positives.

Honestly, can anybody tell me what the point of Diaz and Archer is?
at 20:03 21 Sep 2024

Not decided on Archer yet. He scored two excellent goals at Cardiff in the cup. He hit the post today and at least "almost scored". He has some pace and gets into good positions. But ofcourse that penalty miss and missing the other chance today was poor.

Diaz performs like a headless chicken. I made my mind up that he's useless when he shot from 20 yards today and the ball flew into the back row.

I disagree. I thought we played well. Not a perfect performance but it was much better and I enjoyed it. It wasn't just two incredible saves that saved us from defeat. They were excellent saves, but their keeper also made some saves. Us hitting the post also saved them from defeat. That chance wasn't easy having seen it again. Diaz had a chance to show that he is a striker but he blazed the ball into row Z. We would have been 2 nil up and would probably have won the game. Dibling is effective in the position he plays: scoring goals, winning penalties, creating chances and driving runs. I feel more positive after today's game.

The positives today
at 19:17 21 Sep 2024

I have to agree with everything you have said. Fernandes is an absolute all round classy, skillful player and puts tackles in too. He will be a very important player for us. Dibling, yeh he's going to be a top player. Lallana definitely "the conductor of the orchestra". He might be 35, he might have lost a bit of pace, but he oozes PL class. It was a better performance today without walker-peters. His head us elsewhere. I enjoyed today's game and I enjoyed some of the football. And, I agree, with us winning up until the 92nd minute, the atmosphere was loud and the Northam sang proudly today, even spreading round the corners, lots of potential there.

It was a blow the equaliser, and could be very costly, as we won't have many chances to win in the PL but Wolves, Everton also only on one point. It is what it is. We need that win soon and hopefully at Bournemouth to put us on 4 points.

No it's squarely on Archer for missing chances and then Diaz blasting the ball into row Z, when it was easier to score. No wonder he plays on the wing. And then players not closing down the equaliser.

Nonetheless, Saints played well. We just can't finish teams off because we don't have a killer striker. It's no surprise.

Southampton Already Have Their Target To Replace Russell Martin
at 11:31 21 Sep 2024

Another manager without any premier league experience. Throw in an inexperienced rookie into a PL relegation battle and they would be wasting time and money.

There are also rumours that Eddie Howe might be sacked, but think again if you think our board and owners would appoint someone like him, on probably hundreds of thousands a week. The up and coming inexperienced Blackburn manager with potential would be exactly the type of manager we would go for. Inexperienced, uninspiring, and cheap. So be careful what you wish for.

The players like the manager. I am pretty certain of that. RM is probably a bit naive but he beat Sean Dyche, who is vastly experienced. I really hope RM can turn it around. I hope we have learnt that the grass is rarely greener. We don't have Pl quality and it would be a struggle for anyone.

But even for a vastly experienced manager, if you have a poor team, you won't win games. Everton are poor side, so they lose games. If you want to win games, you need good players. It's quite a simple game really.

Millions of pounds a year time to strike
at 19:00 19 Sep 2024

Well these players could always play for clubs like Southampton, yes earn less (because it's not about the money) not win so many games, go out in all the cups, and never play in the extra champions league games that is obviously too.much for them. That would sort their issue of having too many games.

If they play for the top.clubs on huge salaries because they want to win trophies, then expect to have lots of games. I have no sympathy whatsoever. Don't win so many games then and give the other clubs a chance. Or better still, play for another club lower down and make the league much more competitive. But no they want the glory, they want the money, but don't want the extra games. Tough.

I voted Labour this time, mainly with the view that everything is a mess, can't be much worse than the disaster we have seen in the last few years and might as well see how they do. But, taking money from pensioners is a big mistake. That wasn't in the manifesto. Whilst asylum seekers are nice and warm in hotels, and indeed those who dont work and perhaps haven't ever worked, many pensioners who have worked and paid taxes for 60 years, freeze this winter. There is a message there.

And I suspect in the next budget, those who have done the right thing worked hard and saved into savings accounts, will be taxed to the hilt. If the message becomes "don't save money, the government will take most of it" then many will stop saving and just take the benefits. For example, those who don't own a house, don't have any savings etc, are provided with care free of charge. If you save and own a house, the government will take it and use it to pay for your care. So the message is, don't own your own home, don't save, and the government will pay. Except, that won't work will it. If nobody works and nobody saves, because the government will take it, the country goes bankrupt. So I do fear for the direction we are going in.

Then watching violent prisoners with champagne celebrating their early release. Many should have been tagged but haven't been. What is the message there? The wrong one, that's for sure.

It's also the Premier League. I dont think our fans are any different to others. The West Brom game gave us something to get excited about and our fans responded. Some of the atmospheres, home and away were great last season because it was fun winning games.

It was a serious question when fans were asked on many social media sites, would you rather stay in the Championship than go up. It's boring, isn't it keep losing and not getting anywhere. Wolves, Everton, Leicester, Ipswich, Saints are all in the same boat. The three promoted sides went down last season and they are all near the bottom this season. The clubs straggling financially Wolves, Everton, Palace will struggle in the league, we all know it. You can't get anywhere in this league unless you invest heavily. Everyone knows it and become numb to it. Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool lead the way. They are all the richest clubs. It's so predictable.

Yes Fulham, Brighton, Brentford have proved that it's possible to do reasonably well and they are clearly well run and managed but they won't win a thing. It must also be boring finishing midtable every year.

This is what it seems like to me as well. It seems quieter across the whole stadium, as there just isn't any interaction at all. It's just silent, as those near the away support don't bother with any interaction, they just sit there in silence too.

But the attendances are back up to 31,000 plus, so it's what the club wanted. No need to close sections near the away support, as those near the away support are the quiet ones who just sit there in silence with the louder ones in the Northam. Except they aren't that loud because there is nothing to cheer on the pitch and no away fans near them to wind up either. It's all very dull , calm and quiet. Everyone sat near me now seems very relaxed but it's just boring. A million miles away from that West Brom game and any game in the Championship last season.

Yes, agreed. Today played out how it did and up until the penalty miss it was good. The Ipswich and Bournemouth games are our bread and butter and will be the vital ones. Nonetheless, we will struggle I think because we don't have the required quality to compete in this league. We need a goal scorer and if we don't score , miss penalties, miss chances, we won't win games.

Very true, but when we go one down, it's silent apart from the away fans singing in the corner. Last year was different in that the away fans singing right next to our lively lot, got our lively lot aggravated and many times we then started singing in response, even when losing. The fans near the away fans now, just sit there in silence, and don't react to anything. The fans in the Northam are too far away to react to anything and it's like a morgue. Even at the beginning of the game, it doesn't seem loud.

Anyone else really disappointed with the atmosphere in the stadium? Even at nil nil, it seemed really quiet, yet we have 7 thousand fans behind the goal. The lack of interaction between the home and away support makes the atmosphere really dull and subdued. The interaction between the old Itchen North and Northam all stood up between a bunch of rowdy away fans made things entertaining in the stands if not on the pitch. The away fans now are right next to a load of quiet Saints fans, who just sit there. It's very calm, quiet and subdued in the stadium and it's certainly not impacting results.

Saints Fans Asked To Clap For Elijah At Manchester United Game

Great to see this happen today. The whole ground stood to clap with a picture of Elijah on the screen. He would have been watching down with a smile I'm sure. One of the positives of the day. RIP.

The players are losing belief
at 21:02 14 Sep 2024

I thought there was a lot less passing around the back today. We got the ball forward much quicker than normal, with Dibling and fernandes making lots of forward runs. We were playing some good stuff, then missed the penalty, and the team just got p!ssed off that a great opportunity was missed. United scored and it was game over.

The Ipswich game is a massive game now, lose that and we know that we are doomed and can't win games in this league. Win it and it will give us hope that we can at least win in this league against the lesser sides. Forest won at Liverpool today, Brentford are decent, so are Newcastle so it's been a tough start. Bournemouth away after Ipswich. We need at least 4 points from the next 2 games. It's going to be a struggle regardless.

You can change the cover but the contents remains the same
at 17:08 14 Sep 2024

We changed the formation, we changed the goalkeeper, changed the team with all the attacking players we were asking for, but nil points. If our players miss chances and can't defend, nothing will change. You need really good premier league players who don't miss penalties, don't make mistakes and can score. It will be a real struggle this year, regardless.
