Coventry Reflection

My view from the LL is never optimal but I wouldn’t have called it a 4-4-1-1. Obviously it’s all positive vibes and rightly so after this horrendous run but I thought Hayden was poor and that could be the better fit as a position for Edwards, who didn’t have a bad game at right-back by any means.

My natural fear of the worst would really be allayed with Blackburn getting beat today. Fancy Oxford at home to Birmingham

Wonder what Brewster and Brereton are on. Didn’t think he’d get those two going but fair play. Probably no more than Glass-Salter.

Thought they’d regress without Morris but they’ve kicked on.

It’ll be some admin reason if he was given the ban today. Probably needs to be officially faxed over on Monday or some bollocks.

If we make a real hash of these next three there’s the exciting prospect of being on about 45 points after 35 games and getting a touch nervous.

You’d like to think there’s another Leicesteresque performance in there fuelled by thoughts of revenge.

But I doubt there is. Even if Edwards plays, plays well and as a team they’re above the normal level I don’t see how we keep that attack out or win the midfield battle. Even if we do do all of that for an hour we know the fitness isn’t there to see it out.

Millwall sign Barry Bannan 18 month contract
at 22:40 28 Jan 2026

I’m sure he won’t play every minute but he’s a great fit. They’ve got plenty of strength and pace. If they need to go direct you want him throwing the bombs, either from deep or set pieces.

Possible risk he’s played an awful lot this season and is just knackered but they’ll be smart enough to pick and choose when to use him.

Our players are either ‘no impact’ or ‘injuries’

They must have about 37 wingers and unlike our plethora of equally meh options they are all fit.

They have one player out with an ACL and had one suspension for the last game in their entire quite large squad. Makes you think.

Would Bannon from WBA
at 15:31 26 Jan 2026

Bruce Bannon even in his 70s wouldn’t have allowed that sort of space at Wrexham’s corner

Perhaps sign Steve Bannon to play on the right wing.

When we inevitably don’t put it right he looks more silly. Expect nothing and you’ll never be disappointed.

I think Walsh should get flak for both the second and third goals along with various others but mistakes are more forgivable than utter stupidity. Still annoyed at his first yellow he talked himself into.

Hindsight is great and all that but surely with the players available you move Dunne or Hayden to right-back and Field in the middle if you’re moving Dunne and have actual defenders defending. Was like they were all stood in entirely random positions between the ball and goal.

Edwards was of course the obvious move given the players available on the bench but even bringing on Adamson to play wide or effectively a second right-back would have made some sense just to get a knackered player off. I think it’s possible he just forgot entirely he’d used up the windows which would be less stupid than leaving the subs as late as he did given how obviously they were needed.

In the ludicrous era of five subs, at least one at half-time would make sense regularly regardless of how the game is going. Given we never seem to start the second half well it might be an idea to look at it given we haemorrhage territory and often goals from 45-60.

Their fans, pubs, police and stewards were exceptionally friendly at the away match before and after. More so than a good chunk of our support merited on the day. Don’t mind them. Far rather they do well than Birmingham.

City had Aguero and Balotelli up front whereas this lot absolutely sht themselves over who was meant to be marking Josh Windass seven yards from the goal.

Not justifying it at all but I guess it’s in the slot it is due to the police rather than Sky. No reason whatsoever one of the various Sky channels couldn’t be used for this with proper commentators in the ground, analysis and all that. It’ll probably be some nonsense that they’ve contractually agreed not to show a men’s game alongside certain WSL slots.

Intrigued to see what he does now for three very different challenges in Coventry, Charlton and Blackburn.

This Edwards thing is very odd. Assumed at 1-1 he’d come on for Cook. Presumably he comes in and Dunne moves over and he’s learned from the Ipswich game that chucking in a kid at full-back against a good side isn’t a brilliant idea.
