I think we’re in the range of XG where it’s all a bit useless. Short term game by game useful to see who created better chances etc. Full season, useful to see how a team performed compared to how they should have performed against a statistical average (see Walsh xg prevented etc).
But 6/7 games? Thats basically a run of form where you can run hot or cold for a bit (see Charlton / Cardiff). Not sure it means much yet.
As for PNE, you either regress (/improve) to the mean and results match performances or they get worse as confidence drains. Again, not that useful yet imo. |

Great nerding, and a good example of using data to tell the story you want to tell (as you’ve pointed the ‘average for players 1-7’ line could easily be used to say “look we’re average”).
I think the fact it shows just how much more we are rotating is both positive and negative (JS is aware of it and wants to mitigate it as much as he can, but clearly we’re ending up in undesirable scenarios where we can all see our best team isn’t on the pitch (see Boro @ home)).
If anything this whole sorry fiasco just accentuates the haves from the have nots. 5 games in 15 for West Ham, playing average at best, hit 2ppg and sit atop the league. See also Southampton and Wolves starting to climb.
Remember when they used to say “the most unpredictable league in the world” in the promos? Funny how little that’s said nowadays. Go figure. |

The number of games we play hasn’t changed in the last 4/5 years. The injury record of this club has undeniably got worse since Cifuentes first season. You can’t just point at the schedule and pretend it’s not a problem.

Have you seen a more one sided 2-1? At least in terms of chances. Should have been 4-1.
Burrell brilliant and Lloyd at his whippet best. Great performances all round really, but Tariq Lamptey is a cheat code. Tanner being genuinely bullied by a lad half his height. How he’s here I don’t know but I love it |

I can’t believe some of the assumed fees people think we’d get (some podcasters/posters saying if we got 2/3/4m would you accept etc).
‘I have a bridge’ etc if you think he’s worth anything near that. JCS is now in the Smyth/Dunne zone of worth far more to us than anyone would ever pay. His transfermarkt value, FWIW, is around 300/400k. Obviously it’s not worth losing him for that.
All feels moot to me anyway. If we’ve noticed he can’t play more than 10-15 games a season I think scouts/data nerds might have as well… |

The squad won that game. For an hour ish it was close (and they probably should have had 2), but longer game went each of our subs made us better while they got worse.
That’s the most encouraging thing about today, because that depth only compounds as the winter draws in.
And Lamptey is obviously a premier league player if he stays fit. |

They’re spending £10m on George Hirst now. North of £20m on him and Galbraith. Absolutely mental.

Holding for Eze/Hackney/ Lathe level fees for 5 years isn’t a strategy. We should be selling more in the Freeman / Smithies range. Imo that’s where the likes of Varane sit (but like original reply, not if that is predicated on a loan promotion etc etc). |

You really hope it’s this and not a repeat of the Warburton-Beale era where we got all excited that we might be decent and refused to sell anyone.
Middlesbrough are where they are precisely because they sell their best players. Never feel like that truly lands with some of our fanbase. |
