I think last night showed us that this league is second only to the premiership in its brutality. As Kenny Jackett said many moons ago "The game is about small margins ".
Last night we were slow to react when a headed clearance reached Small in space .
We should have closed the sp
ace much quicker. Result - wonder strike.
Their second a forward ball resulting in a 1 on 1 .Key v. Osmajic.
We seem to play our best football when our backs are against the wall . We did that v Forest and last night we showed when we play with a more attacking mindset we start to ask far more questions of the opposition.
The reality is like last night we run out of time and its a case of what might have been.
Like others on here I think we have been too timid to attack teams when opportunities were there playing the safe pass instead of showing more ambition.
We need a reset in our approach - get on the front foot and attack from the off . Be pro active not reactive . Play with more pace I.E move the ball quicker and dont allow the opposition time to get set in defence.
I think we need to play far more one touch/2 touch football in training from back to front.
Encourage more off the ball running in all areas . We are too static in games and do not move opponents round enough. At times we just pass the ball and everyone stands still . There has to be a pass followed by movement . When we play with a higher tempo you can sense the opponents struggling to keep us out and having to make changes due to fatigue. Its usually too late for us by then . We need to start from the off be more ruthless and get on the front foot.
I was impressed with Samuels Smith when he came on because he showed he has a fighting mentality and is a winner . This is what we need now we have to win our individual battles as we are in a dog fight.

A big , strong athletic team , will not be easy . Birmingham were very lucky to beat them there recently . Preston had a stonewall penalty denied and Brum were hanging on for dear life at the end.

I emphasised this a few weeks ago . The difference between drawing and winning is massive
not just the fact that 2 points more moves you up the table but the psychological lift it gives you. Players and fans get the " feel good factor " .

Casey to replace Bango or Burgess

I think it was evident last night that Kasey and Samuels Smith have talent in abundance and should be used more . The number of games coming up will give them more opportunities it would be criminal not to use them . Kasey reads the game like an old timer and plays with a nonchalance not seen often in a player of his age . Samuels Smith gave his all , we couldn't have asked for any more , he has a turn of pace , a good touch and can play good accurate passes under pressure .

I read they charged Birmingham the same even though Brum had provided their ground for Cov to use when they were homeless a couple of seasons ago . Some thanks eh ? Needless to say Brum fans were not best pleased.

The thing is Whiterockin if we sign Ryan Hedges we could play 2 wingers - Benson and Hedges !
We could stub out most defences and have a smoking hot attack.

Are we overdoing things on the training field?? Just a thought but V QPR the commentator said we looked tired and lethargic and this was after some 10 mins . or so . I have to say after the number of misplaced passes and lack of movement in that 10 mins. I had to agree with him. Maybe its time to bring the West Ham lad into the picture and freshen things up at the back maybe also Samuels Smith . Melker Widdell was a breath of fresh air and showed bags of energy not surprising since he has hardly played , he has to start the next game for me . Iam not suggesting that the people behind the scenes don't know their onions but some times when games come thick and fast teams can become too reliant on the tried and trusted . 7 games in 22 days is a lot Rest is very important - and also change is as good as a rest . As Shankly used to say "We never leave our energy on the training field " .

Constructive Feedback For The SCFC Coaches & Management
at 12:46 24 Oct 2025

Another thing we need to be mindful of in my opinion is the streetwise nature of the championship . The use of the dark arts is prevalent in this division . Multiple fouls scenario - here teams single out one "star" man and their outfield players each have a go at leaving something on him . It looks innocuous but the cumulative affect is our "star" man is getting slowly kicked out of the game or slowed down considerably . Cards are not brandished because the ref takes each one as an isolated incident but together they all add up. example Blues v Galbraith /Innouasa earlier on in the season.
The get your retribution in Early scenario- This one involves the late or hard " mistimed" tackle on an opponent usually a useful attacker and the apology " Sorry mate /ref Iam not quite up to speed with the pace of the game as it's only 5 mins.gone no intention meant followed by "smile" and arm round the shoulder. Example - Dunne on Tymon Swans v Qpr,
The goalkeeper's got a knock scenario - keeper goes down and sits there while the medics race on . Usually when the opponents are in possession in a promising situation. Clever because the ref in effect has to stop the game immediately . Keepers can't leave the field unless being replaced so ensuring the team still keeps 11 players on the field and not on the sidelines for 30 secs. Result promising possession broken up and attack stopped while keeper receives attention and coach can get urgent instructions and water to his team because of the break .

The feigned injury scenario . An attacker is vociferously accused of falling over /diving after a tackle to gain a penalty or a free kick outside the box. Attacker complains and defender remonstrates with his arms and is then reacted to by the attacker who nudges his head towards the defender - result defender falls to the floor as if he's been shot rolling around for more effect . Result - instigator receives only a yellow while the attacker gets sent off and his team down to 10 men. This one is usually used on young / hot headed / previous history of flare ups type players to get a reaction from them that then gets them sent off .
Most useful when used early on in games so that opposition have to play longer with 10 men . Example - recent game at the LIberty.
No doubt the feigned head injury has been used too , to break up play and the rhythm of opponents. This is much harder to spot with a clash of heads and stopping the game obviously has to be instantaneous . What is more debatable is the fingers in the face scenario causing a player to pull up suddenly as if poleaxed . Again , slightest contact is used to break up the play .
