Another thing I think the club could do is invest in a hotel . A lot of money is spent by tourists , visitors and supporters on hotel stays and additional breakfasts /meals/ drinks . We could have tapped into Mel Nurse's experience in this , he became a millionaire from it after all. |

My brother in law went up in one from Biggin Hill . It was paid for by immediate family members. Half an hour he had for his 60th I think it was around £ 3000 but he said it was brilliant . |

Population of Birmingham alone is massive - well over 1 million official . Unofficial it will be more than that . You are right about the population dynamic though , year on year the ethnic population grows disproportionately larger than the indigenous. The area surrounding the Blues' ground is pretty much 70 % asian for at least 2 miles in all directions but to a lesser extent down to the Digbeth side and it will continue like this for the foreseeable future. This is where the transport issue is key for them . Wagner knows this as the fans will be coming in from the suburbs . He is pressing hard for a tunnel to be built to transport fans from Birmingham Central straight to the ground . Cost has been mooted at 300 m + . Can't see that happening myself in the present crisis - see bin strike e.g . The roads around " new ground" are totally insufficient for that sort of crowd figure. Even the access trains at present from Moor st. Station can't cope with the numbers of fans with delays overcrowding etc. proving off putting. Transport to and from the new ground will be crucial to this project being a success and the American owners know this - that part of Birmingham is very built up and congested with old established infrastructure and lots of terraced housing with the problems of cars being parked on pavements etc by the residents adding to issues This is the conundrum and it is not going to be easy to solve a better solution would have been a totally new rebuild on brownfield site on outskirts , near to motor way access. |

James Morrison in temp charge of the team . He knows the club inside out . West Brom traditionally travel in large numbers on the last away game of the season . Like you said I dont think it will be easy for Cardiff. |

There was an interesting jail there it was in the castle . Which dates back to Norman times. The Pendle witches were kept in the dungeon there until hanged . Lancaster became the main justice centre for miles around and the judges barristers etc brought a lot of wealth into the town . The jail was updated in Victorian times and became panopticon. |

He was asked once what happens when he has a difference of opinion regarding a player , with one of his management team ; such as where the player's best position might be in the team. Clough - " Well we sit down over a cup of tea discuss the matter at length and then decide that I was right all along ". |

Capital punishment is a macabre yet fascinating topic . Public hangings in this country were outlawed in 1868 . This meant that executions had to be held away from the public view . Prior to this thousands would gather - whole families and children to watch on a day trip or day out , crowds of 20000 were not unknown . The short drop was the method until abolished in the 1870's this is where the prisoner would die from asphyxiation and struggle for 10 mins . The long drop broke the neck instantly . In London condemned prisoners were taken from the Gaol usually Newgate . They would be on a waggon so people could watch them being taken to the scaffold usually at Tyburn . The prisoner would be offered a drink at various taverns along the way and could well make the journey a lot longer and by the time they got to Tyburn they could be well under the influence. This is what gives us the saying " He's on the Waggon " meaning he's not drinking at the moment . Some prisoners were also condemned to have their bodies used by surgeons post mortem to further the causes of science. Jonathan Wild the thief taker General executed in the 1700's also had his skeleton put on display- it still is , in the Hunterian museum in London . William Corder murdered his 25 year old girlfriend after a tiff in the village of Polstead in 1827. he hid the body in a barn - it became famous as the Red Barn murder. Hanged in Bury St Edmunds he was later flayed and his skin was used to bound 2 volumes of books recounting the story of his exploits! The Books are on display in Moyses Hall museum Bury SE. His death mask as well as the skin from the back of his head including his ear are also there. Some murderers/criminals were put in a gibbet after death - this was a kind of metal cage that kept the body in an upright position . Capt . Kidd ended up like this being displayed at the waters edge in Tilbury. Last woman to be hanged here was Ruth Ellis shot her lover to death outside the Magdala pub Hampstead. 1955. Last men - 2 for a joint enterprise homicide -Gwynne Evans and Peter Allen 1964. |
